Work equally hard for yourself and the team. Recognise good play by ALL the players on both teams. Play to the spirit of the game and accept without question the decisions of the referee and appointed officials. PARENTS should remember that young people play rugby for their enjoyment NOT that of the parents. Encourage young people to play, but do not force them. Be an example to the youngsters who are the FUTURE of the game and support the Club in their efforts to eradicate poor sporting behaviour. SPECTATORS should embrace the traditional ethos of the game and act as positive role models for all young players. Condemn bad language,rude behaviour,violence,never ridicule any individual and always remain outside of the playing area. Steve has done tremendous work over the year in travelling around clubs and representing the County. A truly approachable gentleman who has brought his own distinct sense of humour to the office. A lot of my Monday mornings have included a phone call from Steve starting with the phrase “I think I may have got away with it but……”. Needless to say the tales have me in stitches. As well as his Presidential duties he is an active member of the Disciplinary and Club & Community Committees which means he’s constantly on the go with his County missionary work. Steve has the huge support of his wife Val, who is also involved on the Mini & Junior committee. A couple entrenched in rugby and its administration, thank you both. To Rugby matters, Our Senior XV have reached the final and other reports in this booklet will cover how they got there, at the time of printing we are in the run up to the final at Twickenham against Hertfordshire whom we were runners up to in the final of the 2011-2012 season. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team, along with players who give up their time at the end of very busy seasons to support senior Rugby in Lancashire. Its an absolute joy to be involved in this side of County rugby and one which I look forward to each season.

    The Mini & Youth Rugby Blueprint Roadshow October – December 2013 Feedback Report Summary The Mini & Youth Rugby Blueprint Roadshow took place between October and December 2013. The roadshow visited 27 venues around the country and was attended by more than 500 people. The purpose of the roadshow was to give all rugby stakeholders a chance to share their views on how we shape the mini, junior and youth game in the lead up to Rugby World Cup 2015. In recent years a great deal of work has gone into considering how the game is played, delivered and organised for young people up to the age of 18. The Age Grade Competition Review has been in process for a couple of years, working on producing a recommended competition and playing framework across clubs, schools and colleges. The aim of the blueprint roadshow was to share recent evidence from players highlighting why they play and why they might have stopped playing and to research the views of stakeholders on the best way forward for the game. The challenge is to provide a game format, playing opportunities and support based on the needs and wants of young people. By getting this balance right we aim to ensure that more young people start, remain and choose a lifelong friendship with rugby union, strengthening our clubs and growing the game in the communities around them. Roadshow Format and Method At each roadshow event, the audience was given an opportunity to consider feedback from players aged 7 – 18 about why they play rugby union (and sport in general) and the reasons why they stop playing.

It marks a new scheme of trying to provide more relevant news quicker by reporting during the mid-season break in the National League calendar. It may be briefer but will be followed by an end of season edition as customary, although that, too, may have less content, for hopefully obvious reasons. Executive Summary The Club is in good heart, with both first teams well placed in their Leagues, the Women seemingly able to avoid the post promotion effect and able to maintain their showing of last season as newcomers. The Men have seen the hard work of pre-season reap rewards. A new team has evolved in quick time and has enjoyed success not seen in recent seasons and are well-placed at just more than the half way stage. Up to 14 January 2017, in the London League the Men’s 2nd XI and 3rd XI are leaders in the Premier Division and Division 1, respectively. Zak Hond XI are in ninth spot in the same League Division 1. The 4th XI are in tenth position in London League Division 2. In Division 3, the 5th XI are league leaders, with nine wins and three losses, a point ahead of London Wayfarers. In Division 5, the Hammers XI are in fifth place. Division 6 has two H&W teams: the Spaniards XI are fourth and the Thirsts XI are fifth. The Vets sit top of Veterans Division One, with nine wins and three losses but the Supervets are struggling a little, being seventh of eight in Supevets Division 1, helped by a win on 7 January 2017 against Chelmsford.
