Since its inception, the Game Changer Awards has raised over $4 million dollars toward Coaching Corps’ mission. About Coaching Corps Since 2002, Coaching Corps has been dedicated to harnessing the power of service and sports to inspire and mentor youth in underserved communities. Coaching Corps recruits, trains and supports thousands of volunteers who create opportunities for kids to participate in high-quality afterschool sports programs that allow them to embrace a healthy lifestyle and reach their full potential. Hale, the New York Mets’ third base and infield coach the past two seasons, replaces Joel Skinner, whose contract was not renewed. A San Jose, Calif. native who attended Campolindo High School in Moraga, Hale previously served under Melvin as third base and infield coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2007-09. During that stint, he played a prominent role on Arizona’s 2007 club which posted a 90-72 record and captured the National League West Division championship. A former Major League player, William (Chip) Hale III enjoyed seven seasons as a minor league manager in the Arizona organization before joining Melvin. He steered the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders to the Pacific Coast League and Triple-A titles in 2006 with a franchise- record 91-53 mark. His 220 wins and .542 winning percentage as Tucson’s manager from 2004-06 is also a franchise all- time record. He led Rookie-League Missoula to the Pioneer League’s best overall mark (44-32) in 2000 and to the Northern Division’s second-half championship in 2001. Duvall became the first player to record two three-homer games while wearing a Braves uniform, and his efforts helped Atlanta set a National League record for runs in a game in the modern era (since 1900). “That was pretty amazing to be a part of,” Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said. “I’ve never seen an offense click like that.” The Braves fell just one run short of tying the modern record for runs scored in a game, set when the Rangers defeated the Orioles, 30-3, in the first game of a doubleheader on Aug. 22, 2007, at Camden Yards. Dating back to 1900, no NL club had scored more than 28 runs in a game. The Braves’ franchise record was 23, a mark tallied during the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Sept. 2, 1957. Ronald Acuña Jr. contributed to his three-hit night with a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth. But it was his bases-loaded double in the sixth inning that gave the Braves a new franchise record for runs in a single game, opening a 25-8 lead. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta became the first MLB team to score at least 22 runs through the first five innings since the Blue Jays (24 runs) in a win over the Orioles on June 26, 1978.
