Fetty Wap takes you for a walk through the anthemic, live production with trap influence, Fetty's electric vocals, and melodic poems about money, wealth, drugs, dash romance, and putting on for team Remy Boys. While the lyrics are pretty monotonous, centering around these themes for almost every song, its sound is pretty undeniable. My favorites include RGF Island, How We Do Things, Vateva, Rewind, For My Team, as well as the hits Trap the queen and 679. Produced by Nate Rhoades, Rewind gives the world a taste of Fetty's true romantic side as he wants to bring back the woman he loves from his new lover. The track is a straight-up RBC record with smooth, elegant products and features a verse from Monty. In For My Team, Fetty Wap sings about how his quick ascent to the top feels like a dream.     Trap Spaces, Trap Music: Harriet Jacobs, Fetty Wap, and Emancipation as Entrapment SEAN M. KENNEDY Set in a New York City trap house—an apartment that serves as the hub for an outlaw drug business—Fetty Wap’s 2014 song and video “Trap Queen” depicts the stacks of U.S. currency and the manufacture of product that are core aspects of the genre of trap music. But the song and video also portray an outlier to this strategic essentialism: namely, the loving romance at its center which challenges the mainstream common sense of the misogyny of rap. Likewise, the sonics of “Trap Queen”—upbeat, even joyful—contrast with the aural hardness of much of the genre. In these ways, “Trap Queen” is an important pop-cultural political intervention against both the enduring pathologizing of Black life and the sense of siege with which many Black people, especially poor ones, are perceived to live.1 But while Fetty Wap’s persona in “Trap Queen” can be understood as a homo- economicus figure (Wynter 123) of the informal economy—a breadwinner who can self-determine his own life, albeit within the narrow bounds of criminalized enterprise—that burdened self-possession is doubled for his female partner presented as a woman who will happily do anything for her “man,” from cooking crack to giving him a lap dance (see Figure 1). These labors are shown to be uncoerced. Nevertheless, the larger structures of the racial-capitalist formal economy essentially force many Black women into such gendered survival labor. Indeed, the situation of these women, which Fetty Wap’s “trap queen” only partially evokes, illustrates the thinness of freedom under liberal democracy of which emancipation from slavery is considered paradigmatic.

Going into the year, we had recently modernized the industry measuring stick - the Billboard 200 chart - to include track downloads and streamed songs in addition to traditional album sales. The new chart reflected how fans now consume music, and in 2015 they were consuming more than ever. Total consumption, including sales, streams and track downloads, was up, fueled by the continued surge of streaming, which nearly doubled last year. And yet the biggest music consumption story of the year was not even available on streaming services. We were awed by Adele’s record-crushing 25. We monitored daily activity across sales, streaming, airplay and social, and were thrilled to report on every new milestone she achieved, incredible by any measuring stick. We also “listened” to over 500,000 music consumers in 2015. We learned about their consumption behaviors and preferences. We learned about their social activity – how they engage with their favorite artists, and how they use it to follow festivals and discover new music. And importantly, we also showed brands the power and value of music fans; how to reach them, and how to connect with them. As advocates for the business of music, we are passionate about delivering the most valuable, actionable, insights into music fans - and believe that smart data can inform creativity.

We have our respective beverages in hand—his beer and my glass of red wine—facing each other with our legs bent, contently intertwined. We already touched base on our weapons of choice for the zombie apocalypse, the sports and instruments and dreams we gave up on in high school, and whether our day was more like The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face or Fetty Wap’s Trap Queen. Now, we’re brainstorming names for the future Alaskan husky he wants for his fiftieth birthday and I have a strong feeling he’s about to screw up the sleeping schedule I worked so hard to fix. We’re laughing in two-part harmonies and I’m clutching onto my stomach so hard, I almost spill wine on his khakis. Then, I catch myself before I float too far and lower myself back down to ground. For a moment, I look at the world through my kitchen window and use it as my anchor. Outside, the blanket of brightness fades into a sky of muted blue. I know everything is different now and I’m sitting on my stairs with someone new, yet I can’t help but wonder what skies you’re under and if you’re with someone too. It hits without warning—the wave of dullness, sweeping my feet from under me and threatening to drag me back out to sea.

Included is a content analysis of the prevalence of sexually violent lyrics in popular rap music, and a literature review of articles and studies on the effects of sexually violent media. The media discussed in the literature review includes films, television, and pornography. The relationship between the presence of sexually violent media and its impact on public opinion on sexual assault and rape proclivity are analyzed. The literature reviewed includes studies on differences in response to sexually violent media based on gender. Also included are explanation and summary of a study utilizing the excitation transfer theory and the social learning theory as they apply to the understanding of the perpetuation of rape myth acceptance based in the viewing of sexually violent media.
