9.35am Keynote Speaker: Delivering Value to the Community – Mayor David O’Loughlin, ALGA SESSION 2 10.15am Mitigating Shape Loss on Roads Prone to Deformation Using Geosynthetic Reinforced Pavements – Rod Fyfe, State Manager SA & NT, Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd Traditionally, the problems related to flexible pavements over expansive soils have been addressed by re-surfacing, re-building pavement layers or by lime treating the subgrade layer. This session will discuss the use of geosynthetic reinforcements, both geogrids and geotextiles, that were covered in this study to evaluate the mitigation and prevention of longitudinal cracks in such pavements.

11.00am Securing ’s Agricultural Future Through Recycled Water – Ben Staniford, Senior Civil Engineer, Tonkin Consulting Lack of access to a sustainable supply of water is seen by many producers as a serious impediment to their business’s future success. Similarly, public water authorities are facing increasing pressure to reduce discharges of wastewater to rivers and the ocean. One solution is to recycle the wastewater from a city and make it available to nearby farmers for irrigation. This session will discuss how in Adelaide, this very solution is being implemented through the Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme (NAIS).

11.20am Sustainable Road Management Using Surface Enrichment Techniques – Richard Mihell, Divisional Manager – Airfield Infrastructure and Specialty Surfacing, Fulton Hogan This session discusses treatment for all segregated, eroded and aged asphalt surfaces. JetBlack was developed to provide airports and Councils with an alternative option to resealing aged pavements and thereby, extending their life.

11.40am Tomorrows DBYD Today – Minimising Community Impact by Automating Your DBYD Response – Gary Johnson, Chief Innovation Officer, Esri Australia Since the introduction of DBYD in the mid 80’s, the awareness and use has grown considerably and 1100.com is recognised as the essential first step before digging. But whilst the use of DBYD has boomed, the method of delivery has not changed with printed plans still being the way this underground asset information is delivered to customers. This session will discuss DBYD and locating technologies, new methods for pipeline installation or the tools and devices we use to share this information with our teams.

12.00pm Ensuring Drainage Infrastructure Operates Effectively When Needed with Smart Condition Assessments – Kathryn Johnson, Director of Infrastructure, Port Pirie Council – Richard Powell, Director, Plumbing and Pipeline Solutions (SA) Pty Ltd In 2013 PPS and Council discussed the mapping and condition assessment of its stormwater network and this was completed using PPS Smartmap data collection tool which was developed and hosted by Tonkin Consulting. This session will discuss the benefits, process and current status.

12.20pm Lunch SESSION 3 1.05pm Win Win With Waste Water – Peter Porch, Manager Operational Services, This session will discuss how Council and the community are working together to implement and manage a pivot irrigation project to grow high value Lucerne crops on a 12 hectare parcel of land managed by Council and leased by the Apex Club at Jamestown in the mid-north of .

1.25pm E‐Scooter Trial and the Challenges of Their Introduction – Peter Wong, Principal Transport Design, Electric Scooters (e‐scooters) or Electric Personal Transporters are a disruptive form of transport technology that has been sweeping across the world providing micro‐mobility and first mile/last mile transport. This session will discuss how the City of Adelaide has been working in collaboration with the South Australian Government and SA Police to embrace the new technology and influence how e‐scooters are impacting on the movement of people within the City.

1.45pm Sustainable Waste Management – Changing the Way We Keep Our Cities Clean – Mason Willis, Asset Consultant, City of Adelaide The City of Adelaide actively investigates opportunities to embrace emerging smart and clean technologies, especially when that also means supporting a local growing business. This session will discuss the ‘CleanCube’, a compacting waste bin that utilises the sunny Adelaide climate to convert solar energy into compaction capability, allowing bins to be filled with 8 times more volume.

2.05pm Using Car Tyres in Roadworks Rather Than Waste to Landfill – Russell King, Principal Engineer, – William Brown, Senior Roads Engineer, City of Mitcham South Australia and in particular the Mitcham area is characterised by highly reactive clays where even the most robustly constructed pavement and seal will present with cracks within the first 12 months. Recognising a need to innovate and try something new instead of repeating the failures of the past, the City of Mitcham in collaboration with its asphalt contractor Topcoat worked together to develop a crumb rubber asphalt mix to place on a recently reconstructed reactive soil street.
