Project Description Fast Facts The Florida Department of Transportation will be making repairs on the State Road (S.R.) 44 (South Causeway) bridge over the Indian River in New Smyrna Beach. The Contractor: work involves replacing the timber supports and other components of the fender Seacoast Inc. system, which acts like a bumper to protect the bridge piers from boat collisions. The Project Cost: project also will replace the concrete cap and repair or replace concrete panels on the $1.2 million bulkhead, or seawall, at the east end of the bridge. Project Start: March 2019
What to Expect During Construction Estimated Completion: Most work will be performed during the day from the water using a barge. There Summer 2019 may be occasional shoulder closures on the bridge to pour concrete. Lane closures, if needed, are only permitted at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. For boaters, at least half of the channel will remain open at all times.
