Put simply, the “Friends” is a charity made up of a group of members and volunteers committed to “Making a Difference for patients and staff” in St Richard’s Hospital and local mental health services (now based at the Chichester Centre, Graylingwell).

10 Our Friendly face - the Friends’ Shop & Trolley Service Our Volunteers - very special people, making a real difference for others

Friends’ volunteers give their time, their time regularly – some for 2 or energy or expertise freely, to help 3 hours a week, some much more make a difference. 13 Refl ections on 2017 from the Shop team

ith the Friends’ Shop closed Wfor 11 weeks in 2017, and the trolley service operating out of a series of cupboards during that time, the newly built and refurbished shop, now located in the Outpatients Department, was opened on May 15th, with our beloved Rosemary cutting the ribbon. The brightest pink shop ever seen in Chichester, let alone the hospital, was now welcoming customers new and old who were delighted that we had returned. An offi cial opening ceremony was held on 19th September, attended by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Mrs Susan Pyper and many other supporters, trustees and staff.

14 customers we do miss, however, are the visitors going to the wards and the inpatients who used to visit us in our old location. We are now at the wrong end of the hospital for visitors coming in, and the shop is too far for most patients to walk to.
