While it is obvious that new campus construction will be a major focus in Galena Park ISD this coming school year, the district remains true to its mission of preparing students to be productive citizens and lifelong learners. The challenges faced in the district are not limited to any one grade level, and employees are charged with enriching students academically from early childhood to graduation. With a clear focus on this purpose, Galena Park ISD is excited about the new strategies and programs being implemented this year to fulfill the needs of all students no matter where they are on their educational journey.

Inside this issue: The pre-school years are an important phase of student learning, so Galena Park ISD is enhancing the Early Childhood Program experience. A Family Engagement Plan, specifically targeting Pre-Kindergarten students, has Page 2 Letter from the Superintendent been developed. Families of the youngest students can look forward to Parenting Education classes, district-wide Teachers and Rookies of the Year and campus Family Literacy events, Math and Science Nights, as well as numerous parent volunteer opportunities. The Galena Park ISD Early Childhood Program New Student Enrollment will also utilize a network of community resources, including community agencies and faith-based organizations. The Galena Park ISD Career Marching Band Festivals and Technical Early College High School (CTE ECHS) will be adding their third Page 6 freshmen class this year bringing their total enrollment to 375 students. Character Education Although it is important students receive a good education in academics, it is equally essential that character education be addressed as well. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.
