Members - "Have no fear little flock!" Luke 12:32 Our Lord is yet gracious and merciful in these uncertain times. In the midst of the many changes to our daily lives and routines, God's Word and His love for you remains certain and steadfast. May this bulletin be a blessing to you as we remain, together, IN THE WORD.

Please print this bulletin which contains the entire service (hymns, propers, prayers, etc) or merely open on your phone, tablet or computer. If you have a hymnal at home, that would also be helpful. If you need a hymnal from church, please retrieve yours from your member mailbox or call us and we will drop it off on your doorstep!

To view the actual service, please go to our website www.adventlutheran.org. Click on the photo of our sanctuary on the homepage. You will be directed to another webpage that includes a link to our YouTube channel, where services will be streamed and available for watching at any time.

Barring technical difficulties, the Sunday service will begin streaming at 8:10am, the Sunday Bible Study will begin streaming at 9:35am (we will start the streams five minutes prior to normal start times).

For those of you with SmartTVs, you also may download the YouTube app and search for our channel: " Lutheran Church - LCMS - Zionsville, IN" Please be patient with us as we work with a new medium for sharing our services online. If you are in need and desire the Sacrament, there is also a link to SignUpGenius on our website where you may choose a 15min time to meet the pastor(s) here at Church. As appropriate, the pastors also stand ready to deliver the Lord's gifts to you in your home or elsewhere. The Word of the Lord endures forever!

While remaining in the Word by participating in our Livestream services is of great blessing and importance, please do not neglect your daily prayers and devotions! Now is a good time for fathers (and mothers) to put into practice what God has asked of you. For some, this may be a new venture, for others, let this be a gentle reminder. In the Small Catechism, Luther encourages such in this way: "As the head of the family should teach them in a simple way to his household." All of you should have a Small Catechism at home. Also, our hymnal, the Lutheran Service Book, includes the Small Catechim as well as Daily Prayers that the heads of households may use for family devotions. Hopefully you are also using our Devotional "Eyes on Jesus"! Have no fear little flock! Psalm 46

   Special Music Thank you to Julia and John-Alex Rusyniak for the processional hymn and Deb & Kevin Trewartha, Megan and Natalie Grady, and the Mackay boys for the Anthem.

Today’s Readings Zechariah 9:9-12 Philippians 2:5-11 Matthew 27:11-54

The Cross and Passion of Our Lord Are the Hour of His Glory “Behold, your King is coming to you . . . humble and mounted on a donkey” (Zech. 9:9–12; Mt. 21:1–9). Our Lord rides in this humble fashion because He is entering Jerusalem to humble Himself even to the point of death on a cross (Phil. 2:5–11). His kingly crown will not be made of gold but of thorns, the sign of sin’s curse. For His royal reign is displayed in bearing this curse for His people, saving us from our enemies by sacrificing His own life. The sinless One takes the place of the sinner so that the sinner can be freed and bear the name “Barabbas,” “son of the Father” (Matthew 26 and 27). It is at the name of this exalted Savior, Jesus, that we bow in humble faith. With the centurion who declared, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Mt. 27:54), we are also given to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:11).

About the Service today . . . The service of Passion Sunday, beginning with the of palms, reflects the contrasting attitudes toward Jesus that were on display during the days leading up to His crucifixion. “” is named after the palms that were spread before Jesus as He entered Jerusalem. The acclamation of the people, “Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,” clearly reveals that they hailed Jesus as the messianic king. Yet only days later, our Lord would hear the cry “Crucify!” This contrast is reflected on this day as the joy of His triumphal entry into Jerusalem gives way to the somber remembrance of His passion. The extended reading from the passion narratives sets before the faithful all that our Lord did on our behalf. Thus is the Church prepared to enter – the most important week of the entire Church Year.

   Procession of Palms P The grace of our Lord T Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C Amen.

P Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. C Hosanna to the Son of David.

Collect P Let us pray. Most merciful God, as the people of Jerusalem, with palms in their hands, gathered to greet Your dearly beloved Son when He came into His Holy City, grant the we may ever hail Him as our King and, when He comes again, may go forth to meet Him with trusting and steadfast hearts and follow Him in the way that leads to eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen.

Palm Sunday John 12:12–19 P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twelfth chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord.

The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.” P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

(The children normally process into the Nave waving Palm Branches. Since we are unable to do this, we will have a slideshow of pictures with homemade Palm Branches that the children have colored & waved!) Processional Hymn sung by Julia and John-Alex Rusyniak All Glory, Laud, and Honor

ref All glory, laud, and honor 2 The company of angels To You, Redeemer, King, Is praising You on high, To whom the lips of children And we with all creation Made sweet hosannas ring. In chorus make reply. Refrain

1 You are the King of Israel 4 To You before Your passion And David’s royal Son, They sang their hymns of praise; Now in the Lord’s name coming, To You, now high exalted, Our King and Blessèd One. Refrain Our melody we raise. Refrain

Confession and Absolution p.151 The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination.

P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

Service of the Word Psalm 22:1, 7–8, 11; antiphon: vv. 19, 21

But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen! My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!” Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help. But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!

Kyrie p. 152 A In peace let us pray to the Lord. C Lord, have mercy. A For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. C Lord, have mercy. A For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord. C Lord, have mercy. A For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. C Lord, have mercy. A Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. C Amen.

Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. C And also with you.

P Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His great humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Old Testament Zechariah 9:9-12 9Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Epistle Philippians 2:5-11 5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Lent Verse p. 157 C Return to the Lord, your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and abounding in steadfast love.

Holy Gospel Matthew 27:11-54 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-seventh chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. 11Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” 12But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. 15Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. 17So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up. 19Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” 20Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!” 23And he said, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!” 24So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” 25And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified. 27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. 28And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him. 32As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. 33And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. 39And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. 45Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn of the Day No Tramp of Soldiers’ Marching Feet #444

1 No tramp of soldiers’ marching feet 2 And yet He comes. The children cheer; With banners and with drums, With palms His path is strown. No sound of music’s martial beat: With ev’ry step the cross draws near: “The King of glory comes!” The King of glory’s throne. To greet what pomp of kingly pride Astride a colt He passes by No bells in triumph ring, As loud hosannas ring, No city gates swing open wide: Or else the very stones would cry “Behold, behold your King!” “Behold, behold your King!”

3 What fading flow’rs His road adorn; 4 Now He who bore for mortals’ sake The palms, how soon laid down! The cross and all its pains No bloom or leaf but only thorn And chose a servant’s form to take, The King of glory’s crown. The King of glory reigns. The soldiers mock, the rabble cries, Hosanna to the Savior’s name The streets with tumult ring, Till heaven’s rafters ring, As Pilate to the mob replies, And all the ransomed host proclaim “Behold, behold your King!” “Behold, behold your King!”

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Pax Domini p. 163 P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C Amen.

Agnus Dei p. 163 C Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; grant us peace.

Hosanna! Blessed is He that comes! Hosanna! Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!
