In a recent survey from the Prince’s Trust more than a quarter of young people (29%) feel their future career prospects have already been damaged by the coronavirus pandemic and 46% say that finding a job now feels “impossible”. The options and choices that young people may have had before may be different due to the changing labour market. Meet Your Future will give students the opportunity to explore different careers, industries, work on ‘real-life’ projects and virtually meet and hear from different Greater Manchester based organisations and employees. Meet Your Future Work shadowing campaign was launched by the Mayor of Greater Manches- ter, Andy Burnham, in April 2019. Meet Your Future delivered over 700 work shadowing opportu- nities to young people across Greater Manchester, in a variety of different business environ- ments, to help them learn about different roles and careers and to gain first-hand experience of the world of work. The first event will take place between November 9th and 13th and will involve the opportunity for students to experience virtual encounters with Great Manchester employers and experiences of the workplace. We will alert students and parents to each opportunity when we have further details.
