Ser Educacional Opens Campus of Faculdade Maurício de Nassau in Petrolina The new unit in the northeast is another step in the strategy of offering higher education in the countryside
Recife, September 21, 2015, Ser Educacional (BM&FBOVESPA SEER3, Bloomberg SEER3:BZ and Reuters SEER3.SA), one of Brazil’s largest private education groups and the leader in the Northeast and North Regions in terms of number of students enrolled, informs that the Ministry of Education (MEC) published today in the Official Gazette, the accreditation ordinance of Faculdade Maurício de Nassau in Petrolina, State of Pernambuco. The unit will start operations with five courses: Administration, Accounting, Business Management, Work Safety and Logistics. The courses will already be offered in the capture process in the first half of 2016. Jânyo Diniz, CEO of Ser Educacional said: "Brazil is still a country with low higher education penetration, especially in the countryside, and we found that Petrolina has a high potential for development, as well as Juazeiro, with great population density, considering the number of competitors in the region. We noted that even young people from both cities move to other places in search of a good quality higher education course." With about 325,000 inhabitants, Petrolina is the second largest city in Pernambuco’s countryside, after Caruaru, where the Company already has a unit under the Mauricio de Nassau flag. The city is one of the largest economies in the state, strengthening the development of the São Francisco Valley. The region’s fruit production is known Nationwide and is currently the largest producer in the country, responsible for 30% of Brazilian exports in the sector. The city is also located near Juazeiro, in the state of Bahia, which has about 200,000 inhabitants. The two cities together have a total population of over 520,000 inhabitants.
