COMMITTEE-OF-THE-WHOLE MEETING MINUTES BREMEN HIGH SCHOOL ~ TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2019

1 President Resler called the meeting to order at 6:44 p.m. Call to Order

2 Board of Education Roll Call Present: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Mrs. Resler Phone: Mrs. Jones Absent: Ms. Stearns Central Office Present: Dr. Kendall, Dr. Williams, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Giglio-Byczek, Mr. Masterson, Mrs. Taylor 3 Mrs. Resler opened the floor to the public for comments. There being no public Communications comments, Mrs. Resler closed the floor to the public. 4 Dr. Kendall if there were any questions or concerns regarding the personnel Personnel recommendations. There were none. 5 Mrs. Morrison asked if there were any questions regarding the bills, addendum to Finance bills, payroll and CDS bills. There were none. She then reported on the following: She is recommending the Board allow her to open up next year’s budget at 50% of this year’s budget to allow the school secretaries to purchase items for next school year. Classroom remodeling bid acceptances from the following companies are recommended; Asbestos Abatement - Cove Remediation (), General Trades - Cosgrove Construction (Joliet), Plumbing - Reichelt Plumbing, Inc. (Schererville), Electrical - HyPower Electric Co. (New Lenox), HVAC - Great Lakes Plumbing & Heating Co. (Chicago), and Casework & Installation - Midwest Educational Furnishings. A bid will open on Friday for the flooring. Mr. Canning asked about previous abatement. Dr. Kendall provided additional details. She is also recommending approval of the District 228 Surety Bond, which covers her on the accounts that the Bremen Township Treasurer doesn’t cover. Mrs. Kampwirth asked how much. Mrs. Morrison stated it is $900 to insure 2 million. Coverage is through June of 2020. Mrs. Kampwirth asked what rooms are being remodeled. Dr. Kendall and Mrs. Morrison provided a list of the various rooms and how they will be expanded along with a detailed explanation for vacated spaces, as well as discussion on the purpose of the courtyards. Mr. Johnson asked about the repayment of the Qualified School Construction Bonds. Mrs. Morrison provided information on the payments. Mr. Canning suggested doing a time capsule with the new construction.

2019-0409 Mrs. Resler stated a community member inquired about a track meet occurring the same evening as graduation. Her son is a student at Tinley Park and is on the track team as well. Dr. Kendall will look into it. The Board is open to adjusting the schedule for graduation. 1 At 6:51 p.m., Mrs. Gleason made a motion to move to closed session to consider Closed Session information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees and student disciplinary matters. Mrs. Resler seconded the motion.
