International Moot Competitions

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Virtual Vis):

The Willem C. Vis moot is devoted to international commercial law (in particular the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods) and to arbitration as a dispute resolution method for international business disputes. The competition encompasses both written and oral phases.

The oral rounds of the 28th Willem C. Vis Moot will be held on 26 March – 1 April 2021 in Vienna, Austria. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 28th edition will be held virtually.

Vis East Moot (Virtual Vis East):

The Vis East Moot is a sister moot to the Vis moot. Moot Madrid:

Founded in 2009, the Moot Madrid is an arbitration competition for law students conducted in Spanish. Teams from law schools from all countries are eligible to compete. The competition encompasses both written and oral phases.

The oral rounds of the 13th Moot Madrid will be held on 12 - 16 April 2021 in Madrid, Spain. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 13th edition will be held virtually.

The Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition:

The FDI Moot Competition concerns the protection of foreign investment under investment treaties and customary international law, as well as investor-state dispute resolution mechanism. The competition encompasses both written and oral phases.

The oral rounds of the 2020 edition will be held on 6 – 9 November 2020 in Seoul, South Korea. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition will be held virtually.

The Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot:

The FIAMC combines the law of foreign investment protection with the history of international law and of international trade. Each year, the case study provided to participants is based on historic events. The competition encompasses both written and oral phase.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition:

The Jessup moot court is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. The competition encompasses both written and oral phases.

The ICC Mediation Competition is a simulation of mediation to resolve international business disputes.

The European Law Moot Court:

The European Law Moot Court competition concerns the issues arising out of the European Union law. It encompasses both written and oral phases.

The oral rounds of the 2021 European Law Moot Court will be held in March – April 2021.

The John H. Jackson Moot Court competition is a simulated hearing of the WTO dispute settlement system. The teams prepare and analyse a fictitious case and present their arguments both for the Complainant and the Respondent in front of a Panel which consists of WTO and trade law experts. The competition encompasses both written and oral phase.

The oral rounds of the 19th John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition will be held in June - July 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 19th edition will be held virtually.
