The pairing of lawyer Cesare Isotta and automobile Mark Hyman’s 1932 Duesenberg J Judkins Victoria Coupe enthusiast Vincenzo Fraschini yielded ’s most famous luxury marque, Third in Class K-3: Isotta Fraschini Castagna Coachwork Closed second only to in numbers listed in the CCCA directory. A total of 22 examples of this marque were present, ranging from a 1901 > Ronald Verschoor chassis to the firm’s last attempt at survival, a pair of non-classic Tipo 8C 1935 PACKARD 1207 TWELVE BREWSTER LIMOUSINE Monterosas: a 1947 Coupe by Touring and a 1948 Cabriolet by Boneschi. Other marques with strong representation were PACKARD (12), ROLLS-ROYCE (10), BENTLEY (9), MERCEDES-BENZ (7), Ralph Marano’s 1937 Packard 120 Eight Darrin Convertible Victoria BUGATTI (5) and DUESENBERG (5). Classics ranged in age from a 1915 PACKARD 2-38 RUNABOUT to a 1948 TALBOT-LAGO T26 GRAND SPORT.

BEST OF SHOW WAS BRUCE MCCAW’S 1929 MERCEDES-BENZ S BARKER TOURER, which was also selected as the Jules Heumann Most Elegant Open Car, the winner of the Gran Turismo Trophy and First in The Nethercutt’s 1928 Isotta Fraschini 8A Castagna Imperial Landaulet Class I: Mercedes-Benz Prewar.

There were 180 automotive participants on Thursday’s Tour d’Elegance, motoring 70 miles along the central coast capped by a lunch stop in downtown Carmel. Aside from those “official” Concours events, there Ron Verschoor’s 1935 Packard 1207 Brewster Limousine are numerous car shows, seminars, rallys and auctions that fill an entire week. Automotive sensory overload is probably the best way to describe a year’s worth of activity crammed into one week.

Next year, the Concours moves to the fourth Sunday of August, the 26th of that month. It’s best to plan in advance if you’re even thinking about attending.
