DeltaPort is the association of the -Lippe Port and the City Port, located within the mu- nicipal area of the City of , plus the Port of Emmelsum, located within the municipal area of the City of Voerde. By consolidating these three port areas in 2012 under one um- brella, a unique form of provision of space and services on the Lower Rhine for port-related commercial and industrial enterprises has emerged: logistics spaces in various sizes provide every investor with an ideal potential for development.

DeltaPort has the perfect infrastructural links to numerous cargo handling options for loose bulk, break bulk, liquid and heavy cargo, as well as containers. An additional plus is the gre- at availability of very skilled and highly trained personnel in the fields of logistics, transport, business, and administration in the region. DeltaPort is still a new project – modern and innovative in all aspects. This is demonstrated for instance in the responsibility we assume through our membership in the “EcoPorts” network.

14 Our Port – Your Vision 15 DeltaPort in the “EcoPorts Network”

Through its membership in the “EcoPorts Network” DeltaPort voluntarily contributes to the environmental protection beyond the statutory requirements. DeltaPort was the first European inland port to be granted the status of an “EcoPort”, certified by PERS (Port Environmental Review System). The following contributions to a sustainable port operation are planned:

Shore Power In the future, the City Port of Wesel will supply barges with shoreside power. The necessary technical equipment is in place. The shore power is pure green electricity from 100% hydro- electric power.

Waste Management Barges and other inland vessels can hand over their sorted solid waste and have their slops (a mixture of cargo residues and washing water, rust, or slurry) expertly disposed. In addition, the company GS-Recycling will build two berths for the cleaning of barges in accordance with CDNI.

Electric Cars Environmentally friendly cars have been provided for the Harbor Masters. They serve as means of transportation for official daily trips between the sites. The electric vehicles do

not emit any CO2 and therefore contribute to climate protection.

Multimodal Transport Multimodal transport is a crucial element of green logistics. By including barge and rail in the transport chain, the polluting road transport can be kept at a minimum.
