ANNUAL EEO PUBLIC FILE REPORT

The Purpose of this Annual EEO Public File Report is to comply with Section 73.2080(c)(6) of the FCC’s 2002 EEO Rule. This Report has been prepared on behalf of the Station Employment Unit that is comprised of the following station: KOMU-TV, Columbia, MO and is required to be placed in the public inspection file of this station and on its web site. . The information contained in this Report covers the time period beginning October 1, 2016 to and including September 30, 2017 (the "Applicable Period").

The FCC’s 2002 EEO Rule Requires that this Report contain the following information:

1. A list of all full-time vacancies filled by the Station comprising the Station Employment Unit during the Applicable Period;

2. For each vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy(including if applicable, organizations entitled to notification pursuant to Section 73.2080(c)(1)(ii) of the new EEO Rule, which should be separately identified), identified by name, address, contact person and telephone number;

3. The recruitment source that referred the hiree for each full time vacancy during the Applicable Period;

4. Data reflecting the total number of persons interviewed for full-time vacancies during the Applicable Period and the total number of interviewees referred by each recruitment source utilized in connection with such vacancies; and

Appendices 1, 2 and 3 which follow have been designed, in aggregate, to provide the required information. Please note that the numbers listed on Appendix 2 under the column entitled “Positions for Which This Source was Utilized” refer to the number of the full-time positions listed on Appendix 1.

Scholarship Program

Each year, KOMU-TV, along with KBIA-FM, presents a scholarship to the outstanding minority student in the Broadcast News sequence in the Missouri School of Journalism. The student must have the qualities of energy, enthusiasm, accuracy, and a desire to excel in journalism. The student selected must also have at least one year of school remaining. A KOMU-TV News Department Representative and staff member from KBIA, made the selection which was awarded in September of 2017. This year the scholarship was awarded to a female minority student.

Internship Program

The KOMU-TV internship program exposes college students to the dynamic responsibilities of a television station. Interns work 5-10 hours a week learning basic station operations. During the 2017 Spring Semester one intern gained experience in KOMU-TV’s Promotion Department. During the 2017 Summer Semester one intern gained experience in KOMU-TV’s Creative Services Department.

Station Visits

KOMU-TV staff members regularly conduct station tours. Participants, which include students from local schools, members of local youth groups and members of other community organizations, are provided with opportunities to observe station operations and ask questions regarding station operations and opportunities in the broadcast industry. Educational requirements for various station positions are discussed with students. The station’s staff often assists local youth groups with information necessary to help them obtain merit badges. Career Day/Community Presentations

KOMU-TV staff members are often involved in local efforts for career education in Mid-Missouri. The station’s staff members regularly visit area schools where they speak about journalism and broadcasting and the opportunities within those industries. Staff members also make presentations to groups in our community, educating attendees about station operations and the broadcast industry.

Employee Training

KOMU-TV consistently cross trains part time employees specifically in our production department to encourage development and potential full time opportunities. KOMU-TV’s Production Department tends to promote from within due to this practice. Many part time production employees are students looking to develop skills and prepare themselves for employment after graduation.

KOMU-TV’s Director of Audience Development attended the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation Executive Development Seminar July 16-20, 2017. The seminar included topics on leadership, emotional intelligence, managing and leading human capital, conflict management and productive interactions with employees.

KOMU-TV’s General Sales Manager and Local Sales Manager attended the National Association of Broadcasters’ Small Market Exchange September 14-16, 2017. The General Sales Manager attended a session that included topics of retention and motivating staff members. The convention also allowed both managers to network with other attendees on a wide range of topics affecting the broadcast industry.

In 2017, all full time employees of KOMU-TV were required to participate in Discrimination Prevention and Title IX training conducted by the University of Missouri. Each employee was required to complete an online compliance-training module. After completion of the training module, each employee had to complete a mastery test with a score of at least 80%.

Teaching/Mentoring

Four KOMU-TV News Anchors also serve as adjunct instructors at the Missouri School of Journalism. As instructors, they teach introductory and advanced reporting classes. Additionally, instructors offer students guidance, help develop their skills and serve as mentors.

Student Lab

KOMU-TV’s newsroom is a teaching lab for the University of Missouri School Of Journalism. KOMU-TV’s existence and ownership by the University of Missouri is based upon the model of providing a real world experience to broadcast journalism students. Journalism students report, produce and anchor newscasts as part of their educational experience. Each semester more than 150 journalism students enhance their skills in the KOMU-TV newsroom. Graduates of the University of Missouri School Journalism are highly sought after job candidates due to their hands on experience and knowledge gained in the KOMU-TV Newsroom. KOMU-TV is the only commercially operated network affiliated television station where journalism students participate in the production of all news programs.
