Raymond J. Bartoszek ’86 is the 13th recipient of the Acta Non Verba Award. This award, presented biennially, was established in 1994 to honor an individual who has gone above and beyond in his or her support of Kings Point athletics.

A dual major at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Bartoszek studied both Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation. As a Midshipman, he played baseball, rugby, and intramural sports. As a First Classman, Bartoszek served his teammates as captain of the baseball team. “We had a cohesive unit of great guys who knew that we had to battle every single game because no victory came easy,” he said, explaining that the baseball program was still developing when he started at Kings Point.

Bartoszek remembered working alongside his teammates to make sure the baseball field was always in the best possible playing condition. “We didn’t have a lot of maintenance support,” he said. “As a team, we would take care of the field. It was really a bonding experience for us.”

Bartoszek was also a member of the Ring Dance Committee and served as a Midshipman Officer.

His love for baseball coupled with his appreciation for the training he received at Kings Point led him to recently make one of the largest donations in alumni history toward renovating Lower Roosevelt Field and, in particular, the baseball field. The plan includes a new full turf field, lights, bleachers, scoreboards, and dugouts. “The Midshipmen should have a first-class product to play on,” he said.

Five years after graduating from the USMMA, Bartoszek received his Master of Business Administration with a focus in International Business from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During this time, he worked in the shipyard facility at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. He shifted out of the defense industry due to an opportunity he received from a Kings Pointer, William “Bill” L. Rung, Jr. ’70, in 1991.

Bartoszek received a fundraising letter from Rung to support the rugby team. He noticed the letter was printed on Texaco Inc. stationery and had been sent from White Plains, New York—close to where he grew up. Immediately, Bartoszek called Rung and offered a small contribution to the program. After talking for a few minutes, Rung asked him to come in for an interview. “I met with him the next day and he ended up hiring me—all as a result of that connection to the Kings Point Athletics Program,” said Bartoszek. “I’ve always been hopeful that I’d be in a position to give back because of moments like that one.”

Bartoszek worked as a professional oil trader from 1996 through 2011 at Texaco Inc. and Glencore Ltd. In 2004, he became the President of Glencore Ltd. He was also a Director of the firm, which had a successful initial public offering in 2011. That same year, Bartoszek co- founded RLB Holdings, an investment firm, with his wife Lydia. He now serves as the firm’s managing general partner.

Bartoszek became the youngest limited partner of the New York Yankees in September 2011. He continues to hold an ownership interest in Yankees Global Enterprises, including a stake in the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network.

Today, he serves on the Board of Directors of Solution Point International Inc., Kineta Inc., Horseheads Sand and Transloading Terminal LLC, Fitness Holdings LLC, and Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Whitby School, based in Greenwich, Connecticut. He continues to stay involved with Kings Point and also gives back financially. “I really believe it’s a privilege to go to such an excellent academic school and be surrounded by future leaders,” he said. “I’m grateful that I was given the opportunity to go there and fortunate to be able to help future Midshipmen.”

Bartoszek resides in both Greenwich, Connecticut and Big Sky, Montana. He and his wife have six children, including four sons (Ryan, Blake, Owen, and Caden) and two daughters (Natalia and Grace), ranging from 25 years old to 2 years old.

Recently, Bartoszek started a youth baseball program in Montana. He coaches the Big Sky Royals, a team of 15 kids, which features his son Owen as shortstop. He also skis and, this season, reached the milestone of skiing 1 million vertical feet.

Bartoszek enjoys spending time with his classmates and playing in alumni baseball games. “I feel great about the future of Kings Point,” he said. “We have continuity, cooperation, and a shared goal of continuing to create maritime leaders.” “SKIP” PROSSER ’72 GEORGE “SKIP” PROSSER ’72 ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Established in 2007, the George Edward “Skip” Prosser ’72 Achievement Award is presented biennially to a USMMA alumnus who epitomizes the true spirit and qualities of “Skip” Prosser ’72. Skip’s qualities included honesty, integrity, dedication and the determination to serve others. In his work, he was an educator, motivator and leader. He made a difference in the lives of all the student athletes he worked with.

The recipient of the “Skip” Prosser award shall be a former student athlete from Kings Point who has successfully fulfilled their obligation and excelled in their chosen career path in a manner that embraces the traits of Skip Prosser - that of a man who believed in “Service Before Self ” and exemplified our Academy motto of “Acta Non Verba.”

Skip Prosser ’72 passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2007 of an apparent heart attack in his office at Wake Forest University. Prosser, 56, had been serving as the head men’s basketball coach at Wake Forest of the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference for six seasons.

Prosser compiled a career record of 291-146 in his 14 years as a head coach at the Division I level. He had a 126-68 record in six seasons with the Demon Deacons and led the team to five postseason appearances, which included four trips to the NCAA Tournament. The head coach also led the program to its first ever No. 1 national ranking and a school record 27 wins in the 2004-05 season. Additionally, he was named the ACC Coach of the Year in 2003.

The USMMA alum took over at Wake Forest in 2001 after coaching Xavier University for seven seasons and leading the Musketeers to the NCAA Tournament for five straight years. Prosser also coached Loyola (Md.) for a season and led the Greyhounds to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in 1993-94. He is the only coach in NCAA Tournament history to lead three different schools to the tournament in his first season at each school.

Prosser received his degree in nautical science at the United States Merchant Marine Academy and was a letterwinner with the men’s basketball program. He earned a master’s degree in secondary education at West Virginia University in 1980. GEORGE EDWARD “SKIP” PROSSER ’72 ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS

Jack Noonan ’78 Peter Rackett ’61* Tom Carpenter ’79 2011 Recipient 2012 Recipient 2014 Recipient

Joseph Martucci, Jr. ’70 Joe Martino ’86 2016 Recipient 2018 Recipient * Deceased JOSEPH A. MARTINO ’86 2018 “SKIP” PROSSER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER

Joseph A. Martino ’86 is the seventh recipient of the “Skip” Prosser Achievement Award. This award, presented biennially, was established in 2007 to honor the memory of George E. “Skip” Prosser ’72, an athlete who demonstrated honesty, integrity, dedication, and the determination to serve others throughout his life.

Martino was a Marine Transportation major at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). As a Midshipman, he played intramural sports and was a member of the varsity football team for four years. “I still feel very connected to athletics,” he said. “I had great coaches, great team captains, and great teammates.”

He was also a member of Social Committee, Ring Committee, and Student Life Committee. As a First Classman, he served as Class President, leading initiatives to unify the Class of 1986.

Martino’s commitment to his classmates did not stop after he graduated from Kings Point. He served as a member of his Homecoming Reunion Committee, working closely with his classmates on event coordination and fundraising every five years. He understood the value of the Kings Point connection, which led him to grow his passion and dedicate his time and energy to the Kings Point community. “We have such a great network,” said Martino. “Other than my immediate family, one of the things I get the most satisfaction from is my extended Kings Point family.”

Martino served as Secretary and President of the Central New Jersey Alumni Chapter, bringing together and engaging alumni—both young and old—on a local level. He led meetings, organized social and networking events, and kept members informed of USMMA news.

Martino also supports USMMA recruiting efforts by interviewing potential candidates, representing the USMMA at Service Academy Information Days, and presenting certificates to appointed candidates at high school award ceremonies.

Because of his success with his alumni chapter, he was voted Chapters Director in 2012 to represent the dozens of USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF) chapters. In this role, Martino reenergized the Chapter Relations Committee to amplify the voices of the Chapter Presidents and address their concerns. Following his tenure as Chapters Director, Martino was elected to the AAF Board of Directors, a position he continues to hold today. He serves on the Executive Committee as Vice Chair of Alumni Affairs/ Chapters.

Martino is a member of the AAF’s highest giving society, known as the Flying Bridge. He is a strong supporter of the KPI Bridge Oil Blue and Gray Golf Classics, a 12-event tour that directly benefits athletics. Martino created a “Class Challenge” at the Las Vegas event, which awards the class with the highest attendance. Not surprisingly, the Class of 1986 continues to dominate the challenge every year. Most importantly, however, the Las Vegas Blue and Gray Golf Classic has become one of the most popular and well attended AAF events, providing significant financial support to athletics, thanks to Martino’s relentless energy.

He was awarded the AAF’s Distinguished Service Award in 2016 for his work toward improving life for the Midshipmen, engaging alumni, and advancing the mission of the USMMA. “Once I got to that point in my career where I should have the ability to balance what’s at work and what I want to do in my own time, I chose to put as much time as possible into furthering the Academy and making it a better place for the Midshipmen,” he said.

Today, Martino works at HMI Technical Solutions, an engineering and construction firm that provides comprehensive infrastructure solutions, as Director of Engineering Solutions. In addition to his Bachelor of Science, he holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.

He resides in Marlboro, New Jersey with his wife and classmate Margaret A. “Peggy” (Fischer) Martino ’86. Together, they have two children, 21-year-old Ryn and 19-year-old Anthony. When he is not working, he enjoys golfing, hiking, visiting the beach, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

In the future, Martino hopes that the USMMA loses its reputation of being “the best kept secret.” Until then, he plans on continuing to sport his USMMA license plate and class ring as he spreads the word about Kings Point. “It’s that shared connection that started 30-plus years ago that still means a lot today and will continue well into the future,” he said. 1969 FOOTBALL TEAM 2018 ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

The 1969 Mariners football team is the first and only Kings Point team to win the Lambert Bowl. The Lambert Bowl was awarded to the best Division III team in the East by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) via voting by members of the ECAC, media and broadcasters.

The 1969 team entered the season as one of the premier teams in the region as they returned many starters from a very strong 1968 team. Utilizing a dominant, nationally- ranked defense, and led by two All-Americans, the Mariners defeated local rivals Hofstra, Adelphi and Wagner as well as Drexel, Hobart, Union and Norwich. The defense held opponents to just under 10 points per game and 60 yards rushing per game, while also making 79 tackles for a loss of 611 yards.

The offense replaced one USMMA Hall of Fame quarterback with another and averaged just under 20 points per game on their way to a near flawless season. The ’68 and ’69 football teams started a run of nine-consecutive seasons, which produced an overall winning percentage of .701, the most successful run in Academy Football history.

Kings Point accepted the Division III Lambert Bowl trophy alongside Penn State (DI), Wesleyan (DII), and Delaware (DII) at a ceremony at the Essex House in New York City. THE TEAM:
