Rob Mackay Tel. No. 01467-642578 Hilda Hart Tel. No. 01467 643461 Health Walks Every Friday at 9.30am

These are short low level walks around Kemnay and designed for all abilities even those who have not exercised for a while. Anybody can join us, the walks are free and you don’t need any special equipment – just a sensible pair of walking shoes or boots! These walks are led by trained Walk Leaders. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the walks apart from Guide dogs.

We meet outside the Village Hall on Fridays at 9.30 a.m. We aim to cater for all abilities and everybody is welcome. We run both a Health Walk that lasts approximately 60 minutes and a Gentle Walk that lasts 20 – 30 minutes.

The Health Walks are free and available to anybody living in Kemnay & area. We are particularly interested to meet with people who are living with some form of dementia and also their unpaid carers (e.g. family member, friend, neighbour) .

These are excellent ways to get out of the house and meet new people. The benefits are not just physical but also helpful for positive mental health and wellbeing.

Musical Director required Spectrum Singers is a small, mixed community choir based in Kemnay. We are a friendly group and welcome singers of all abilities. We enjoy performing a wide range of music and, at present, rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 2.00– 4.00 during the school term. Although we work hard, we have a lot of fun and are looking for an enthusiastic leader to develop our skills and present us with new challenges. We also require our new MD to be able to accompany the choir on the keyboard at rehearsals. Our starting date would be 26th April. If you are interested in this position or would like more information, please contact Naida Sneddon - email: [email protected] or phone 01467 643168 or Hilda Hart - email: [email protected] or phone 01467 643461

Good afternoon

I have today emailed the Aberdeenshire Council Dog Wardens to advise them of the increase in dog fouling over the last couple of weeks, particularly along Bridge Road and Donald Avenue (two of the main routes leading to the Fetternear Estate).

There is absolutely no excuse for this as there is a poo bin located at the Riverside Road end of Donald Avenue that is easily visible from whichever approach dog owners take to Fetternear.

I would be grateful if you could please highlight in the next newsletter that dog walkers "failing to immediately remove the excrement and dispose of it in a suitable receptacle (dog bin, public litter bin or their own refuse bin)" is an offence under the Dog Fouling () Act 2003.

Aberdeenshire Council's authorised officers have been active in enforcing the provisions of this legislation and have served a number of fixed penalty notices.

Officers routinely carry out enforcement patrols in Aberdeenshire, and any person found committing an offence is issued with a fixed penalty notice, incurring a fine of £80. This rises automatically to £100 if it is not paid within 28 days. A person who persistently offends, or where an Officer feels that payment is unlikely to be made, may be reported under the Act to the Procurator Fiscal as an alternative to being issued a fixed penalty where the maximum fine available to the Court is £500.

21 Minutes of Meeting (extract), Thursday 30th Jan 2020, 7.30 pm,

THE FULL MINUTES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE VILLAGE WEBSITE: www.kemnay.info

Present: Bill Blackwood (Chair); Gaenor Berkin (Vice Chair), Fran Patrick (Secretary); John Whittall (Treasurer); Sue Wainman; Margaret Basley; Lee Aitken; Richard Lamplugh; William Irvine; Suzanne Bunton Apologies: Claire Stewart; Marie Glendinning; David Carlin; Cllr H Smith

POLICE MATTERS – Police Report for October and circulated. Seems to have been an increase in incidents over Christmas, although this report does cover two months.

GUEST SPEAKERS – James Davidson, Environment Planner, Aberdeenshire Council - Change to Core Path: Unanimous KCC support for the re-routing of the core path at Dalmadilly on to the community path and ponds path. Maps of the network of core paths are available online. The need for a core path link between Kemnay and Inverurie/Kintore was raised again. ’s Parent Council has also expressed its frustration at the lack of a cycle route. And the situation re Place of Origin and its core path was again raised - letters have been sent to Aberdeenshire Council, and Greenbelt about this, as there is the possibility of volunteer help to clear the broom, etc. J Davidson stressed that his team is trying to support community groups to maintain core paths. Oskar Johansson was unable to attend tonight’s meeting, but will be invited to pass on his ideas to KCC.

OPPORTUNITY FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO SPEAK – Lorraine Dack, Library Services: Everyone urged to complete the survey on the future of the library service in Aberdeenshire, deadline 29th February. Unanimous KCC support expressed for Kemnay Library and what it offers to the village. Sasha Brydon – has put his name forward for co-option to KCC, which will be considered at next month’s meeting.

MATTERS ARISING - a) Place of Origin – Not known yet if the Chivas Regal funded volunteers will be coming to Kemnay. If this were the case, Aberdeenshire Council would be expected to help in the disposal of the broom, etc. A reply was received from AC to the letter sent about PoO and some progress may finally have been made; no reply has been received as yet from Greenbelt. b) Fly tipping – KCC has received an email from a local farmer to alert local community councils about this issue and urging people to report any incidents. c) Traffic Issues – Parking: No reply from police, but Station/Cafe83 has been contacted asking for their help and have been offered posters. It was suggested other businesses on Station Road also be contacted. Electric vehicle charging points: More points are to be installed as resources allow. School bus routes: The School Transport Unit has now agreed again that all school buses should go via the quarry road, NOT via High Street, Kendal Rd or Fraser Place.

22 The Friendship Room, Kemnay Village Hall

d) Christmas Event – It will cost around £300-£400 to run a similar event annually, not including the purchase of additional lights. Feedback to the Christmas tree has been largely positive; the other two trees are finally on their way and should be planted shortly by Landscape Services.

TREASURER REPORT – All bills paid; £155.58 received from the Christmas event.

PLANNING MATTERS AND APPLICATIONS – a) Current planning applications - 6 applications submitted - Ref. No: APP/2019/2672; Ref. No: APP/2019/2748; Ref. No: APP/2019/2778; Ref. No: APP/2019/2869; Ref. No: APP/2019/2882; Ref. No: APP/2019/2886. No comment was made on any of them. Additional information has been published on Milton APP/2019/0490

REPORTS a) Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) – The KVH unit & alarm have been fixed and information is still being collated from volunteers to update the new system now being run by the British Heart Foundation. b) Garioch (& North ) Safety Group (GNMS) – No-one from KCC is able to attend. d) Community Planning – New SIMD (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) figures have been issued, which may have an impact on Kemnay. e) Greener Kemnay – Allium bulbs received from Landscape Services, being planted at Birley Bush f) Kemnay Local Learning Community Partnership (LLCP) - Training on ‘family learning’; there may be some support for encouraging intergenerational learning. g) KAPC/KPPC/APPC - KAPC: Four senior pupils led a workshop on online bullying, part of the Mentors in Violence Prevention programme. The PTA still has no additional volunteers. Ms Paul gave feedback on a seminar on the Excelerate programme, which is being supported by the Wood Foundation. The question of a school minibus, was raised. KCC was asked to support the Academy’s request for a cycle route to be established between Kemnay and Kintore. KPPC: Therapets are coming in to P2/3; concern about the very muddy and potentially dangerous state of the back park.

ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL/COUNCILLOR NEWS – No Councillors present.

Greener Kemnay

Purple is the new flower colour for Kemnay this year In November, Purple for Polio crocuses were planted with the Kintore Kemnay and District Rotary. These will be in flower soon at Dalmadilly. We have now planted a large patch of ornamental onions (Allium Purple Sensation) at Birley Bush Community Garden. The tulips are showing so hopefully some will flower. Bulbs flower year after year so hopefully these will be seen for many years to come.

You may have noticed the fence is less wavy thanks to a village volunteer and that a new hut is about to be raised. There is still a greenhouse to go up; could you take this project on? We have also received some fresh produce from the rear end of a pony which is being layered in the bins to give us compost for next year :-)

One Seed Forward is again offering seed potatoes; you plant and then share the crop with someone else. We also have some seeds and onion sets to share.

We have room for spare seedlings in the growbags and if you would like to help look after the polytunnel get in touch. Email [email protected] or leave a message on 077 5777 6266

Advance notice- Birley Bush Open Day 9th May with a reduce/re-use/re-purpose theme linked to the Second World War, ideas welcome.

'Green' Tips

No need for plastic bin liners! As most waste goes in either Recycle (should be clean) or Foodwaste (bags supplied) the remaining un- recyclable waste, much reduced, can be disposed of directly into the Household bin. As all bins are emptied by remote-control the Council are more than happy for us to dispense with the plastic bin liners (fact-checked).

Do you have a tip to share? Please send it to [email protected] for inclusion in this slot, thanks.

Once again we ask all organisers of events in Kemnay & District to give details for publication in the newsletter. It is much better if events do not clash, for in a small community such as ours, these clashes can result in divided loyalties and maybe a lower financial return for those who are raising funds for charity or their clubs expenditure.
