Research Article, ISSN 2304-2613 (Print); ISSN 2305-8730 (Online) Determinants of Watching a Film: A Case Study on Dhallywood Film Industry, Bangladesh Mst. Farjana Easmin1, Afjal Hossain2*, Anup Kumar Mandal3 1Lecturer, Department of History, Shahid Ziaur Rahman Degree College, Shaheberhat, Barisal, BANGLADESH 2Associate Professor, Department of Marketing, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Dumki, Patuakhali-8602, BANGLADESH 3Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Sociology, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Dumki, Patuakhali-8602, BANGLADESH *E-mail for correspondence: [email protected] https://doi.org/10.18034/abr.v8i3.164 ABSTRACT The purpose of the study is to classify the different factors influencing the success of a Bengali film, and in this regard, a total sample of 296 respondents has been interviewed through a structured questionnaire. To test the study, Pearson’s product moment correlation, ANOVA and KMO statistic has been used and factor analysis is used to group the factors needed to develop for producing a successful film. The study reveals that the first factor (named convenient factor) is the most important factor for producing a film as well as to grab the attention of the audiences by 92% and competitive advantage by 71%, uniqueness by 81%, supports by 64%, features by 53%, quality of the film by 77% are next consideration consecutively according to the general people perception. The implication of the study is that the film makers and promoters should consider the factors properly for watching more films of the Dhallywood industry in relation to the foreign films especially Hindi, Tamil and English. The government can also take the initiative for the betterment of the industry through proper governance and subsidize if possible. -

Organized as a sequel to the first conference, the Second International Conference on Genocide, Truth and Justice was held on the 30th and 31st of July, 2009 at the CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka. This conference, held in the wake of a changed political scenario and when voices are being raised demanding the Trials of the War Criminals of 1971, has acquired greater importance and significance now because the demand for the Trials has been hugely endorsed by the younger generation. The first conference dealt with genocide as a crime from different perspectives, whereas the second conference emphasized on the legal aspects and procedures of the War Trials with a view to assist the present elected government, which is committed to and has already taken initiatives to start the process of the Trials. During the two-day conference, important aspects and new insights to the Trials were voiced by the various legal experts, both from home and abroad. The foreign legal experts shared their invaluable views about trial processes based on their experiences of working in previous international tribunals. -

Bangladesh Bank (BB) blames banks’ misrepresentation of trade policy amid Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) fall ■ The Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday blamed authorised dealer banks for misrepresenting the country’s trade policy and putting Bangladesh’s economy at stake even after adoption of a liberal trade policy in the 1990s. A BB circular issued by its executive director Mohd Humayun Kabir on the day raised the allegation at a time when many global businesses were exploring their options to shift their manufacturing units elsewhere from China amid the mounting US- China trade war. Besides, the 56.0% fall in foreign direct investments last year could be another reason behind issuing the BB circular. The country’s FDI inflow dropped to USD 1.6 billion in 2019 from USD 3.6 billion in the previous year. ■ According to an official of the central bank said that the banks were mostly unaware of the government’s policy on foreign direct investment attraction which was why many of the banks, dealing with foreign customers, failed to provide them with the required guidelines. As a result, many potential clients got the wrong idea about the country’s liberal trade policy, prompting the central bank to come up with the circular. -
