NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS ASSOCIATION (June 15, 2011) ncbwa.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mike Montoro (304-293-2821) NCBWA ANNOUNCES 2011 DIVISION I ALL-AMERICA TEAMS MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – After two rounds of voting by the organization, 56 baseball student-athletes comprise the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s 16th Annual All-America first, second and third teams, as announced on Wednesday. Nineteen different conferences are represented, one independent and 10 conference championships teams. The three All-America squads are also made up of 12 conference players of the year, seven conference pitchers of the year winners and 10 first-round draft picks in the recent Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Members of this year’s team lead the nation in 16 different categories, including batting average (Chad Zurcher, Memphis, .443), runs (Jake Lowery, James Madison, 80), hits (Tyler Naquin, Texas A&M, 103), doubles (Jason Krizan, Dallas Baptist, 39), home runs (Victor Roache, Georgia Southern, 30), RBI (Lowery, 91), slugging percentage (C.J. Cron, Utah, .803), total bases (Lowery, 200), on-base percentage (Zurcher, .547), stolen bases (Bryson Myles, Stephen F. Austin, 53), walks (Anthony Rendon, Rice, 80), victories (Ross Stripling, Texas A&M, 14), saves (Corey Knebel, Texas, 19), strikeouts (Trevor Bauer, UCLA, 203), fewest hits allowed per nine innings (Knebel, 4.44) and complete games (Bauer, 10). The recipient for the 25th Annual Dick Howser Trophy, as voted upon by NCBWA members and awarded since 1987, will be announced on Tuesday, June 21, in Omaha at 10 a.m. (CDT) at the TD Ameritrade Stadium Press Interview Room (Street Level). The Dick Howser Trophy recipient also will be present at the College Baseball Awards Show, held on July 3 at the United Spirit Center in Lubbock, Texas on airing on MLB.com. Previous NCBWA All-America teams from 1996-2010 have featured the likes of P Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State, OF J.D. Drew of Florida State, P-DH Jason Jennings of Baylor, 1B Mark Teixeira of Georgia Tech, RHP Mark Prior of Southern California, SS Khalil Greene of Clemson, SS-2B Rickie Weeks of Southern, 3B Alex Gordon of Nebraska, P David Price of Vanderbilt and C Buster Posey (all current Major Leaguers), among others. Trent Rosecrans GOODYEAR, ARIZ. — Tony Cingrani gets angry every time he gives up a hit. It doesn’t matter if it’s a spring training exhibition game – like the one he will start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies – or against the St. Louis Cardinals. As the Reds’ second-year starter sees it, it’s his job to not give up any hits and if he gives up a hit, he didn’t do his job. That makes him angry – and like a famous fictional character, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. “That’s how I get myself fired up. I need to throw harder, so I try to get super angry and throw it harder,” Cingrani said. “I’m not turning green – I’m trying to scare somebody and see what happens.” Cingrani’s intensity even turned into a meme among Reds fans, with the “Cingrani Face” becoming synonymous with an intense, scary mug. Cingrani said he saw that, and even chuckles quietly about it.

Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland (Gateway) was formed in 1990 by the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, for the purposes of financing, building, owning and operating the Gateway Sports Complex in downtown Cleveland. Gateway owns Quicken Loans Arena, as well as Progressive Field and surrounding common areas, including Gateway Plaza along Ontario Avenue. Gateway’s lease agreements with the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as revised and extended in 2004 and 2007, facilitate Gateway’s ability to continue as a good steward of these two tremendous buildings, as it has been for a generation. The leases with the Indians and the Cavaliers require the teams to pay for operating and maintenance costs of their respective facilities, many of the capital repair costs, as well as all of the cost of operating the Gateway Corporation. Gateway’s responsibilities – pursuant to a budget agreed upon annually with the teams and financed by team rental payments - include common area maintenance, insurance, security, and oversight of the maintenance and capital repairs of the ballpark and the arena, ensuring that Gateway’s facilities are maintained to guarantee their long-term viability.

After back-to-back NCAA titles for South Carolina and numerous defections to the professional ranks in ‘11, the 2012 projected team may be a mini-view of the NCAA World Series next June. The defending champ Gamecocks landed pitcher Matt Price, who led the nation with 20 saves and kept USC in the running throughout the CWS with clutch relief appearances, on the first unit, along with starting ace Michael Roth (14-3, 1.06 earned run average, 112 strikeouts in a workhorse 145 innings pitched. Also off of Ray Tanner’s title crew is 1B Christian Walker, a second team selection, after posting a .358 batting average with 10 home runs and 62 RBIs. First team All-America catcher Mike Zunino of Florida brings back NCAA team runner-up credentials and 2011 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year statistics – 19 homers, 67 RBIs and a .371 average. Teammates first squad utility player Brian Johnson (8-3 pitching record, .307-5-29), relief standout Austin Maddox (3-0, 0.67 ERA, 5 saves) and DH Preston Tucker (.308-15-74) – the latter two second team – graced the A-A rosters.
