According to the US Geological Service the magnitude 7.5 quake struck at 09:09 UTC (UTC), was 196 kilometers (121 miles) deep, and the epicenter was

82 kilometers southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan in the mountain range. Considerable shaking was felt in (KP), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Pakistan Administered Kashmir, , and Baluchistan as well as in the capital .

Initial media reports indicate at least 110 people have been killed in Pakistan with 94 of those fatalities occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). An additional 1000 are reportedly injured. The Chief Minister of KP has declared an emergency as a precautionary measure and provincial and district authorities are currently conducting damage assessments. Hospitals are on alert in KP to receive the estimated 600 injured.

Situation in KPK and FATA Pakistan: Earthquake had affected almost all the districts of KPK and Agencies in FATA. The death toll is increasing as per latest updates and news as the major settlements of the KPK and FATA are mountainous and hilly and soon after the earthquake the telephonic communication is disconnected to many parts of KPK and FATA. In some parts of the KPK and FATA there was raining and the people had spent all the night under open sky due to partially or completely damages of their houses/ shelters. The public and communal infrastructure is damages widely as well livestock and agriculture is also affected at large. The worst affected district in KPK is Shangla, Swat, Upper Lower Dir and while in FATA is Bajour Agency (Tehsil Khar, Mammoond & Salarzai) where there is more deaths, casualties and other damages were reported. As the provincial and national governments had become high alert but so far no assistance had been provided to affectees in the respective areas.

Damages and Looses Accordingly to the official and local sources 20-40 % of agriculture land and Livestock were damages. Nearly 50% of households were directly affected. Due to continuous rain there is a great fear of spread of epidemics and there are needs for health promotion and mobile health units. Due to earthquake many governmental building like schools, BHUs and other facilities like roads link roads and bridges were also affected.

Needs The affected population will be in need of the followings. Medical Assistance Include and Bandages for injured Food and Non Food Items Temporary shelters/ Tents Support to the Pregnant, Lactating and elderly women Nutritional supplements and Children and other vulnerable groups social protection Lifesaving drugs

Response NIDA-Pakistan with the networks of community based organization, local volunteers and community activist are gathering information. NIDA-Pakistan will conducted detailed assessments of all these villages and will share soon with humanitarian community and all concern clusters.
