Our 88 acres of historic landscapes represent an outstanding chapter in the nation’s history of garden design, horticulture and early tree and plant propagation. GREEN ANIMALS TOPIARY GARDEN c. 1860 One of America’s great Victorian houses, Chateau-sur-Mer was home to three generations of the Wetmore family. It features hand-carved Italian woodwork, Chinese porcelains, Egyptian and Japanese Revival stenciled wallpapers, and rare trees from as far away as Mongolia. Recently-restored original bronzes of ladies in Japanese dress holding ornate candelabra have been returned to the central staircase. CHEPSTOW 1861 This charming Italianate-style cottage was designed by Newport architect George Champlin Mason. It reflects the mid-20th century style of its last owner, Alletta Morris McBean, and includes original A lion, a camel, a bear, oh my!
