Fantastique! for Schools: innovative downloadable learning resources
• Free-access, downloadable resources, based on Berlioz’s life and works, for teachers to deliver key elements of the music education curriculum in an engaging and practical way – either in the classroom or remotely
• Targeted primarily at schoolchildren aged 8-14 – including disadvantaged or poorly-resourced children and schools
• Comprising detailed lesson plans, based on Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, with teacher packs and all necessary supporting resources and materials, including videos and soundtracks from performances, interviews, and high-quality editorial and informational content
• Also providing all materials needed for participation in the massed children’s choral initiative, Fantastique! Live
• A major element in the longer-term legacy of the Fantastique! project, providing a basis for further development and expansion beyond the initial offering
Fantastique! Live: the largest-ever children’s choral event in the UK
• Inspired by the Charity Children’s Concert attended by Berlioz in St Paul’s Cathedral in June 1851, with 6,500 singing children: “the most extraordinary thing I have seen and heard in my whole life”
• The largest-ever children’s choir in the UK (target: 10,000+ children aged 8–14, from the UK and beyond), at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, during spring/summer 2022
• Incorporating an eclectic range of musical styles, from classical to hip-hop (“Berlioz to beat-box”)
• Including specially-commissioned new work(s) by leading contemporary composers
• Giving participants an unforgettable musical experience and inspiring them with a continuing love of music: the most important legacy of Berlioz 150
• Delivered in partnership with Young Voices, the Aloud Charity, Kilimanjaro Live and the Principality Stadium, plus broadcast and media partners and other key bodies in Wales
• A template for future large-scale children’s concerts complementing music education activities

Live: • An unforgettable musical experience for thousands of children – from all backgrounds • A template for future events to reinforce music education Classical music: • Raising awareness and enthusiasm for classical music among young people – especially those with limited access to classical music and music education • Fostering future audiences – and future participation in choral singing Berlioz: • Creating a buzz about Berlioz • Enhancing perceptions of his relevance to young people today
