Montmorency County Ontonagon County Despite renewed questions about his Upper Peninsula Oscoda County residency, the 71-year-old former Three-Star General in Otsego County the Marine Corps improved on his 15-point margin in a Presque Isle County district that is trending in the Republicans' direction. Bergman benefited from putting a bug in Trump's ear about funding a new Soo Lock earlier this term and the Republican chief executive following through on a promise to make the long-awaited and long-needed infrastructure project a priority.

Morgan stumbled out of the gate when he mistakenly used a P.O. Box address on his petitions as opposed to a physical address. The 46-year-old was forced to wage a successful write-in campaign during the primary to make the General Election ballot.

MIRS Analysis (November 6, 2018): In the 2nd District, U.S. Rep. Bill HUIZENGA (R-Zeeland) swatted Democrat Dr. Rob DAVIDSON in the most competitive West congressional district in decades.

Huizenga captured the population bases in Ottawa and Muskegon while Davidson managed support in some of the district's smaller counties.

The emergency room doctor managed to raise around $1 million and benefited from the Michigan Democratic Party making an issue about Huizenga's use of campaign funds to buy expensive meals in out-of-state vacation locations like DisneyWorld.

Huizenga found himself on his heels defending his support to eliminate the (ACA). Instead, he looked for ways to change the conversation to one about the country's improving economy and preserving local economic drivers like the S.S. Ed McBroom was able to emerge Ontonagon County Schoolcraft victorious after navigating a bruising, expensive battle Schoolcraft County royale in the Upper Peninsula over Rep. (D-Calumet) in a critical district targeted doggedly by both parties. With all precincts reporting, unofficial results had Mr. McBroom winning with 54.6 percent of the vote and Mr. Dianda taking 43.7 percent.

Mr. McBroom slugged it out with Mr. Dianda in an expensive and sometimes nasty race with heavy advertising and attack ads. He was able to secure support from the daughter of the late Rep. John Kivela and was able to capitalize on a conservative shift in the U.P. in recent years.

MIRS Analysis (November 6, 2018): The Republicans' won stand-out win of the night came in the Upper Peninsula, where Ed McBROOM overcame personal tragedy to outlast Rep. Scott DIANDA in a race where the SDF sent up a team of foot soldiers and more than $100,000 to help their candidate.

The death of McBroom's brother, with whom he ran the family dairy farm, put Ed's future in the race in question. But with the same genuine personality that helped Gary McDOWELL 10 years ago, McBroom slowly overtook Dianda on the campaign trail.

The endorsement of the daughter of the late Rep. John KIVELA proved to be a devasting blow to Dianda. Kivela was remembered in Marquette and points beyond as a bi-partisan problem solver. She, describing McBroom in those same terms, gave him a boost in a district that's trending the ri ght way for Republicans.

With all precincts counted, Mr. Markkanen had 17,980 votes (50.8 percent) and Mr. Summers had 17,401 votes (49.1 percent). Mr. Markkanen had almost no money and after he got crushed two years ago by Rep. Scott Dianda (D-Calumet) was not seen as a strong candidate. But the U.P. is clearly moving in the GOP's direction.
