Lorna Francis Born at Marrickville NSW. Educated at Hurstville Home Science Secondary School where I achieved a Certificate for being first in the year for Business Principles & Typing. Employed by David Jones in the office for five years, then left work to start my family. Began work in 1975 at Ulan Electric Gulgong where I then worked my way up the ladder to become a billing supervisor of 10,000 quarterly electricity accounts. I left work in 1995 after 20 years service and my husband and I moved to Nelson Bay. I became a Justice of the Peace in 1985. Began bowling on 11th May 1995, became President of the Ladies Club 2000 – 2003 and I have been Secretary since then. Represented my Club at Pennant level. Joined the Board in October 2006, my contribution has been mainly to represent the Ladies and pass on and discuss any problems the Ladies might have.

Helen Nicholls My business background is as follows: I was trained as a secretary mainly in engineering and then accounting with my late husband. I have owned and operated two food outlets, including preparation, cooking and sales. After retirement, I became involved in volunteering work capacities and began playing bowls at Pennant Hills Bowling Club in . During that time I represented the Club in Pennant games, interclub tournaments and was elected as selector. In 2007 or thereabouts I moved to Anna Bay and transferred to The Nelson Bay Bowling and Recreation Club. Again, I played Pennant and represented the club at District and State Carnivals. I was elected Vice President (3 Years) and then President (3 Years) of the Ladies Club. I was also elected to Newcastle District Ladies Bowls as selector during this time. In 2014, I was elected to the Board of Directors of The Nelson Bay Bowling and Recreation Club. I have completed all mandatory training courses required by Clubs NSW and attended all seminars and training sessions as required. Over the past two years I have assisted at raffles and other special days with great pleasure. I have enjoyed my tenure as a Director and would like to continue with projects still in the pipeline. I feel I still have a great deal to offer to the club.

Kerry Dumbrell I have been on the Board for the past six years and I am excited at how far our Club has progressed in that time. I think that we can still improve and grow our Club for all our Members to enjoy. I feel our future is bright but still challenging. Now that I am retired I feel I can put even more energy into keeping our Club as it has become known, as your Club. I have also gained my Responsible Service of Alcohol qualification and completed all mandatory Directors course as deemed necessary by ClubNSW. Kerry Dumbrell. Member 1994.

Richard Gibson Justice of the Peace, born in Tenterfield NSW in 1939. I was educated at Sydney Grammar School and worked for over 50 years in packaging companies such as St Leigh, Containers Ltd, Precision Valves and Vizzy Board, mainly as sales & marketing manager. I retired in 2000 and moved from Clovelly in Sydney to Nelson Bay. I joined the Nelson Bay Bowling Club as a full member in 2002 and played mid-week Pennants. I was elected to the Board in 2005 serving under President Bob Hamill and then as Deputy Chairman to Tony Curtayne and then Ian Spencer. I believe I was a strong contributor to the decision-making processes of the Club and was involved on a weekly basis with the previous ground floor renovation of the Club in 2008. I will continue to work for the Club and its Members.

John Carroll I have over 40 years in Government, that includes 20 years in the Royal Australian Airforce. My background includes and not limited to Financial Management, Contracts and Tenders, Management in Logistics, Infrastructure and Human Resources. I have experience in developing Business Plans, Risk Management Plans, Governance Controls, Financial forecasting and budget management. My experience includes training and development in Logistics Contracts Supply Chain Management and part time TAFE NSW Teacher. My hobbies include mainly sport playing Australian Rules Football at amateur/country level and coaching. I have enjoyed playing squash, tennis, badminton, touch football and recently lawn bowls playing in the local pennants Grade 7 team for Nelson Bay. Candidate Profiles for Board Elections

Damien Kroek Damien has been a member of the Board for the past two years; he is a member of the Discipline and Greens Committees, and contributed significantly to the development of our Strategic Plan. Originally from Newport in Sydney, Damien taught in the country for ten years before managing an employment and training program for disadvantaged youth – he also owned a takeaway food shop for a short while. He joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1996 as a Training Systems Officer and recently retired as a Wing Commander on reaching compulsory retirement age after 22 years of service. He remains in the Active Reserve. Damien has served on a number of sports and club committees including YCW Sports Club Armidale, President of Griffith Cricket Association and Murrumbidgee Cricket Council, Vice President of Griffith Unquenchables Charity Bowls Club, Vice President and Carnival Chairman of West Tamworth Bowling Club, Committee Member of Belconnen Bowling Club, and Vice President and President of the Australian Services Bowls Association. A keen bowler, Damien has captained the Australian Defence team; he reached state level for ACT and has played for NSW Zones 3 and 1. He played No 1 Pennants at West Tamworth, Sawtell, Park Beach and Belconnen. These days he thoroughly enjoys the company of everyone on (and off) the green and plays Pennants in the lower grades. He is married to Annamarie and between them they have seven children and eleven grandchildren (and one on the way).

Garry Witts I am 66 years of age and recently retired. I have been a registered bowler for 10 years and am in my 5th year as a National Bowls Umpire. I have a background in business and transport management and have been a proprietor of successful businesses in Real Estate, smash repairs,local country and interstate furniture transport, and mobile coffee retailing. I feel I have a strong connection to the club and its membership and believe I can contribute in a positive way to the club moving forward.

Max Harman Dear Members, My name is Max Harman and I will be standing for election of The Nelson Bay Bowling and Recreation Club Ltd. I was employed by the Coca Cola Company for three years as Area Manager of the Hunter Valley up until 1988. I then left the company because of an offer of a nice package by the Aberdeen Sports Club. Since leaving Aberdeen in 1991 I have been the Manager of Four Clubs including Iluka Bowls Club, Maitland City Bowling Club, Soldiers Point Bowling Club and the Nelson Bay Bowling Club. I have attended many Clubs NSW seminars and conferences, featuring; economic club, poker machine management, along with public relations and board of directors duties. If elected, hoping with my past experiences I will be able in some way contribute to the business, bowls and social areas of the club. I am now retired and have the time wherever possible to provide the best facilities available for the bowlers, members and guests. I remain yours faithfully, Max Harman.

Donnelly Richard Gowlland Age 66 years. Retired. I am a current bowling member of NBBC and playing pennants for the club as well as a regular patron of the club. My professional background started in the role of Purchasing and Supply for the Public Service for a period of 10 years, before venturing out in my own Financial and Insurance Brokerage business to the Motor Industry. I have also held the position of Area Manager, with the Citicorp Banking Group during my professional career. I spent 9 Years on the Board of the Newcastle Port Stephens Gamefish Club, stepping down from the role of Jnr. Vice President 3 years ago when my interest in game fishing waned. Graeme Jacobs For over two decades, I have lived locally in Nelson Bay. Throughout this time, I have taken part in community sports, playing for the Nelson Bay Gropers and the Port Stephens Outrigging Club. Currently working in the building industry as an onsite supervisor in the local and . With 30 years’ experience, I have built great relations with contractors and co-workers and managed extensive projects, which has progressed into a supervisory role. My professional attributes that I believe will benefit the board for the Nelson Bay Bowling Club are; • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team • Proven value as a strategic advisor • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities. If appointed, I look forward to assisting in the promotion of the club and assure staff, patron and bowlers’ satisfaction.Overall, my assets combined with great staff and patron rapport will add value and I stand hopeful to take on this opportunity as a board member.

Reg Dowton Firstly, I’m a proud Marlin (world’s happiest 7th Grader), National Umpire and Marker. My 40 plus year working career has been in entertainment and radio. While constantly being On Air during that time I have also worked in management positions from Programme Director, Promotions Manager to Operations Manager. I started in regional radio (2DU Dubbo, 2MC Port Macquarie), then to the big city Newcastle (2HD, 2NX & 2KO), then to the biggest city Sydney (2KA, 2UW, 2UE & 2SM). For the past 17 years I have been breakfast announcer at 88.0 Bay FM. I have also worked extensively in promotions at clubs like Penrith Panthers and Wests Newcastle. I’m a past President of Dubbo District Cricket Association. Skills I can bring to the Board of N.B.B.C. include communication, marketing, promotions, advertising and people management. Desmond Allen My wife Noreen and I moved from Tamworth to Nelson Bay just over four and a half years ago and in that time we have both been active members of the Nelson Bay Bowling and Recreation Club, socially and on the bowling greens. I have had a forty-year long career in the civil engineering field of road design, traffic management and associated works, working for both State and Local government organisations. I have had approximately twenty-two years Registered Club board experience including five years as chairperson. I have completed the Club NSW “Director Foundation and Management Collaboration” requirements together with the club Managers Association “Financial Fundamentals” course and attended numerous seminars and workshops prepared for members by the Club Directors Institute. I am a proud Life Member of the North Tamworth Bowling Club. As a Director, I would look forward to making a positive contribution to the Board of Management.

Ray Milton Ray Milton was born in Sydney, where he attended Ashfield Boys High. Subsequent to that he studied at the University of , the University of New England, and Deakin University, where he gained a Masters in Educational Administration. Ray was a teacher for nearly 40 years, in Murwillumbah, Grafton, Condobolin, Nelson Bay and Tomaree High Schools, and for 30 of those years was a Head Teacher and Deputy Principal (3 Years). Ray is President of Nelson Bay Rugby Club, and holds a state position on the Board of the Australian Rugby Golden Oldies, administering an area from the Central Coast to mid-Noth Coast, and including Newcastle and the Hunter. For nearly 39 years, Ray has been married to Julie, and father to Sarah who works in Nuclear Medicine, and Craig who works in Policy for the Minerals Council of NSW. A resident of the area for 30 years, Ray is keen to put back into the community and has a good skill set that would benefit the Nelson Bay Bowling Club as a Director.
