Buffalo Game NIGHT UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FOOTBALL www.CUBuffs.com 2009 CU GAMEDAY NOTES—GAME 2: BUFFALOES vs. TOLEDO Colorado Buffaloes (0-1, 0-0 Big 12) vs. Toledo (0-1, 0-0 MAC) September 11, 2009 The Glass Bowl Toledo, Ohio 9:07 p.m. EDT Buffalo Game NIGHT GAME NOTES STILL “GREEN” Instead of running up to 40 pages of notes and statistics each game, Colorado has gone “green” to conserve paper ... except for the season opener, when we want to get all our fun stuff into your hands. Otherwise, all seats in the press box receive the CU “short stack,” four cover pages plus stats; there are some full sets of in‐depth game notes for those who would like them. THE QUICK OF IT The Colorado Buffaloes (0‐1, 0‐0 Big 12 in 2008) practiced just three times, on Tuesday‐Wednesday‐Thursday, in preparation for its first road game of 2009, as CU arrived in town 6 p.m. yesterday and will take on the Toledo Rockets (0‐1, 0‐0 MAC) in a 9:07 p.m. eastern time kickoff … It is the latest local time kickoff in Colorado history, topping an 8:34 p.m. kick in the 1990 Orange Bowl … The Buffs have lost their last six games in the eastern time zone (see below), but have won nine straight on the road against non‐BCS members … Colorado will don white jerseys with black pants tonight … CU is 5‐2 all‐time on September 11, and though 2‐0 the last two times on the date, have been Jekyll‐and‐Hyde on it: in a 63‐35 win over San Jose State in 1999, CU amassed a school record 767 yards of total offense; in a 20‐12 win over Washington State in Seattle in 2004, the Buffs had just 125 yards, their second lowest total in ever winning a game … ILB Shaun Mohler did not travel with the team to Ohio; he had suffered a concussion last week in the CSU game and has not been cleared to return to practice yet; however, ILB Michael Sipili (knee) practiced full‐go and will play tonight … The “devout Buff award” tonight could go to Lt Col Joseph Woodard, USMC, who is flying in with three other Buff Marines from the east coast after a day of meetings and are due in a couple of hours before kickoff; Woodward has had multiple deployments in Iraq … As of Friday, just under 10,000 tickets remained for next Saturday’s Wyoming game (1:30 p.m. MDT). LISTS Playing on a Friday night in the Eastern Time Zone at a non‐BCS school allowed for some creative lists of lasts: Friday Night Games (in season; 1-1) *—in Jacksonville; *—Champs Sports Bowl Oct. 10, 1975........... at Miami, Fla. He has caught a pass in 25 consecutive regular season games; he is closing in on the record of 27 set by Charles E. Johnson between 1991-93. He is also 21st all-time in receiving yards at CU (1,043); a 65-yard game would vault him into 16th, as he trails Dave Hestera (20th, 1,057); Christian Fauria (19th, 1,058); Patrick Williams (18th, 1,070), Dave Logan (17th, 1,078) and Loy Alexander (16th, 1,107). ⌦ ILB Jeff Smart (207 tackles) needs just 9 to move into 50th place all-time on CU career tackles list. ⌦ QB Cody Hawkins. With 784 career pass attempts, he will move into second place with just 2 attempts (Kordell Stewart had 785 between 1991-94; Joel Klatt owns the record with 1,095 from 2002-05). Stewart had 456 completions, with Hawkins’ needing 11 to pass him into second on that list (Klatt leads with 666). Klatt (44) and Koy Detmer (40, 1992-96) are ahead of Hawkins (37) in TD passes, with Detmer third n all-time yards (5,390), some 583 ahead of Hawkins, who is fourth. THE WEEK AHEAD Colorado will be able to collect its collective breath after have just five days between the CSU and Toledo games, with eight between tonight and Wyoming on Sept. 19. There will be team and position meetings Saturday afternoon to review the Toledo game video, following conditioning. The team will practice from 8‐10 a.m. on Sunday and will have Monday off before resuming the normal weekly practice schedule in the 4‐6 p.m. range on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday’s walkthrough slated at 3 p.m. Dan Hawkins’ weekly media luncheon is TUESDAY, SEPT. 15 (lunch at 11:30 a.m. with Hawkins and a selected player at Noon); there is no luncheon Sept. 22 ahead of the open week. LOCKERROOM POLICY… Colorado’s lockerroom is closed; Dan Hawkins will speak to the media just outside the Buffalo lockerroom after the standard 10-minute cooling off period (if not sooner). Associate SID Curtis Snyder will coordinate solicit player requests (no deadline to submit); SID Dave Plati will coordinate postgame notes and the injury report. —2 Buffalo Game Night 2— COLORADO DRESS LIST / vs. Toledo (75 players) Probable Starters Offense Defense WR...... 21 Scotty McKnight, 5-11, 185, Jr.** LE......... 90 Marquez Herrod, 6-2, 280, Jr.** WR...... 15 Jason Espinoza, 5-8, 175, Soph.* DT ........ 50 Curtis Cunningham, 6-1, 275, Soph.* LT........ 78 Nate Solder, 6-9, 305, Jr.** NT ........ 93 Will Pericak, 6-4, 280, Fr.-RS* LG ....... 63 Ethan Adkins, 6-4, 305, Soph.
