BRIEF WRITE UP ON 11,1000 to 22,000 TPA CAPACITY EXPANSION OF EXISTING PLANT SPECIALITY CHEM ICALS M ANUFACTURING AT KONNAGAR, DISTRICT HOOGLY, WEST BENGAL Nalco W ater India Lim ited is an Am erican M NC and a global leader in providing essential expertise for water, energy and air. NALCO W ater India Lim ited proposed to enhance the production capacity of existing specialty chem ical m anufacturing plant from 11000 TPA to 22000 TPA at Konnagar, Hooghly district, W est Bengal. The land allocation for the existing plant is 27.40 acres and the proposed expansion will be installed in 5 acres within the existing plant prem ises. No additional land acquisition involved. The estim ated cost of the project will be about Rs.10 crores. The existing plant is located between the geographically co- ordinates: Latitude - 220 42’53” N and Longitude - 880 20’37”E. Propose expansion is based on the existing technology. Production will be done by batch process. M ost of the products are blended product of different raw m aterials based on standard business form ulation and som e are reaction based polym er product. Liquid raw m aterials are either pum ped or sucked under vacuum into the reactor or into a m easure vessel for subsequent charging into the reactor. Solid raw m aterials are charged through charge hole of the reactor. Reaction tem perature is m aintained by heating with steam or cooling with cooling water or chilled water by passing them through jacket or coil of the reactor whenever required. Reactor is vented through scrubber. In som e products, reactor is hooked up to a vent condenser. After processing is over, batch is sam pled to control laboratory for analysis and adjustm ents are done if required to m eet the product specification. W hen approved, product is filled in M S drum s or Plastic Barrels or HDPE Totes or Jars for shipm ents to custom ers. W ater requirem ent 65 m 3/day will be m et from ground water resources with prior approval of the CGW A. Power required for proposed expansion is 20,00,000 KWh sourced from the state grid. The existing plant is located 1.5 km , N from Konnagar/Rishra Railway Station and 12 km , SE from Kolkatta Airport. Nearest water body is Hooghly River located at a distance 1.3 km in East direction. No forests exists in 10 km radial distance from project boundary. NH-1 is about 6.5 km W , SH-6 is about 1.1 km E, SH-2 3.1 km , E and NH-2 4.0 km , W from project boundary. No national parks, wild life sanctuaries and eco-sensitive zones within in 10 km radius. The proposed project site falls in zone-III as per IS 1893 (Part-I): 2002, indicating that the site is seism ically stable zone.
