WE’D HEARD THE NEWS about XXL – gay extravaganza, vast cavernous arches where the bears and the sizzlers come out to let their fur down – but we’d yet to dip our magenta-painted toenail in its muscular waters. Rocking up on top of a hot jock we’d paid pocket money to piggyback us from the tube station to the club (it’s the heels), we came face to face with the mother of all snaking queues stretching down to the Southwark Bridge. But after a couple of sweet sugared words, an all-too suggestive blowjob pout and a flutter of our false eyelashes with security we were ushered in through the rear entry, for a change. Inside, we found a big butch bears’ picnic of sizzling beats (we flung open the doors and strutted in to Kylie from the godlike DJ’s elevated booth, and we knew from the first five seconds we were spiritually home), truly hot guys galore and an atmosphere so welcoming and inviting it made even our battle-hardened shard of a heart temporarily soften, as we placed our peacock-feather fan across our lips to staunch the lipsticked acidic quips. Because, amongst the packed dancefloor of soaring, spinning lights and attractive mavericks, everyone could be who they wanted; a granddad in hot pants was doing the honky tonky on a podium; guys who didn’t succumb to body fascism were dancing for the fun; everyone was smiling and relaxed. Wandering through Pulse’s heaving halls, we saw the chillout room with the floating purple balloons, the real picnic that had been spread out in Room 2 with its song tunes and feather-boa divas, and we thought ‘yes, this has what we’ve been looking for.’

AFTER WE ATTENDED a hot (and we mean that in both senses of the word) Lovebox after-party earlier in the year, there was no way we were gonna miss another night of heavy beats and Handsome boys. It was hard to believe that we’d be walking the streets in shorts mid-September, but if we were gonna work up a sweat anywhere, it was gonna be East Bloc. In the side room, R&B maestro Mark-Ashley Dupé turned up the heat even further with some irresistible jams that we couldn’t help but move to - before you knew it we were sashaying around in front of that lone fan pretending we were J-Lo in the ‘Play’ video. But the music wasn’t the only reason we’d ventured East that night, the Bloc had promised us some eye candy - and thankfully it delivered, because copious amounts of vodka and shameless flirting is all part of the sweaty Ke$ha fun. In the main room, Hannah Holland and Severino dropped some serious house beats that had the dance floor packed ‘til closing. Jamie Bull and the Essex Suicides provided the fun room but with an old school vibe. It certainly didn’t disappoint and we’ll be returning for more chiseled-chic-sweaty-skettiness next month!

QX GOT DOWN with the Dalston freakz as underground club- nite smash, Dirty Diana, stomped back to Vogue Fabrics for yet another monstrous meltdown last Friday. Featuring no end of homosexual high-jinks, coupled with a searing soundtrack of rampaging beats, a half-crazed crowd of wayward Eastsiders crammed onto the lo-fi dancefloor for bitch- slappin’ party anthems from the likes of Jacqui Potato, Chema Diaz and Bunni Splanchnik, that had sweat dripping off the ceiling before midnight. Upstairs the mayhem splurged out onto Kingsland Road as cross- dressers worked their sassy street style alongside international disco queens, Hoxton chavs, minicab drivers et al in the chill night air, whilst a queue of hopefuls snaked out the door with barely a hope of getting in on the action for who knows how long. Meanwhile, we got back in the thick of things for dirrrty dance grooves and homo-socialism at the bottom of a rickety staircase, as those thumping basslines shook plaster off the walls through ‘til mind-bendingly late. Watch this space for news of Dirty Diana’s next basement blowout!

VAUXHALL WAS THE place to be as QX Club News rose to the occasion for suggestive shenanigans galore at Eagle London’s latest Saturday- nighter, Boner, last weekend. Home to a succession of fantastic throwdowns, from the legendary likes of Horsemeat Disco and Tonker to Carpet Burn and Trannyshack South XXX, the newest addition to the Eagle roster has moved from its original Dalston stomping ground to the edgy environs of one of London’s hottest homo joints. Hosted by dazzling scene star Johnny Yihi, a night of deeply penetrating thrills saw DJ beasts Borja Pena and Josh Caffee working up a sticky storm at the decks for an intimate assemblage of Eagle regulars and wacky Eastenders that had buff blokes throwing their hands up into the teensy hours. Highlights included an impromptu NYC Vogueing ball-style parade on the dancefloor from Johnny and his cohorts, whilst there were enough fantastic drinks offers available at the bar to keep QX’s bargain-booze hunters happy until chucking-out time. Meanwhile, the gregarious goings on continued in the ever-popular Eagle garden as the antics carried on through ‘til late with Boner proving it’s sure as hell got staying power. Here’s to the next one!

RIKKI BEADLE-BLAIR is on a mission. In his work as gay actor, filmmaker, playwright, musician and artist, Rikki has addressed homophobia from a variety of unexpected angles. Dear Dr Alex I’m writing to you as I have a slightly annoying little problem. For the past 2-3 years I’ve noticed that when I have a wank or cum before sleeping rather than falling asleep straight away I lay there exhausted for a couple of minutes and then start feeling restless which results in not being able to sleep properly. I have found a solution for it and that is to go for a wee afterwards in order to relax myself and be able to sleep and even then I’m sometimes not able to sleep well. I know this all sounds a bit random but I was wondering whether this is a common occurrence among men my age and if there is a solution for it? It’s sometimes a bit embarrassing when I’m with a partner having to wee straight after sex in order to sleep or having to make excuses to put off sex until in the morning. Any ideas on what my problem might be? Tom, 31, West London
