Saare County Government is one of the representitive part in Leonardo Da Vinci EU project. Project’s, which was signed in 2003, main task was to organize cooperation between the school and enterprice. It’s very important to teach the youth how to cope with oneself, make the right decisions in the future career, when Europe and are improving quickly.

1.Children and enterprising: We called our part in this project so. -Government directed this project to Basic School, coordinator Jaan Lember. For basic group was chosen the form 7,because the project lasted 3 years. Packet 1B,which seemed the closest to our aim, was chosen to participate in GEBP prject .

How has it gone on : 2. Establishing the aim: taking part in GEBP project represented with 17 European regions choosing the topic – children and enterprising determining the basic form and the teacher who is responsible for it in a school level making the plan of work and finding co-partners cooperation with parents contacts with Saare County Small Enterprising Centre SEB Ühisbank Saaremaa Department Hansabank Kuressaare Vocational School

3. Why we were interested in this participation: to find an international output for school to offer afterschool activities to give children schooling on economy and career to introduce the position of banks in our everyday life to organize school holidays to motivate teachers to get more knowledge to strenghten cooperation between Kuressaare Town Government, Saare County Government enterprising- and education department

4. How we planned the practical participation: to take part in every GEBP conference (according to financial possibilities) to introduce good examples to other members to form children’s nonprofit organization according to laws of Estonia to introduce the project in media, radio, TV

5. Practical GEBP-project work in Kuressaare Basic School: formed a group from children who were interested in economy and this project, put together work-plan Saaremaa is famous for its handicraft. From that point- children’s handicraft – teaching, learning, producing, sale, advertisment Lectures- forming own company • banking, money,taxes, business, law • visits to banks, firms

Children took part in different events: Christmas fair, handicraft-fair, fair in Gotland, Reunion of nonprofit children’s organisations. There was introduced our students firm and were sold. Its products. From earnings students bought new materials. Thanks to our art- teacher students’ paintings are fantastic. Our tradition is to give paintings, souvenir-cups and cards as presents.

All this is reflected in our 2005 schoolalmanac. It’s a good example of students’ initiative team-work.

Another important part in this project was junior economic studies. Lectures took place once a week per 2 hours. Main topics- * forming companies according to the laws in the Estonian Republic and banking. *what is money *how to produce and sale * book keeping * banking and communicating with it * creditcards and loans * publicities of the firm and products * enterprising in Kuressaare and Saare County

The lecturers were specialists from Kuressaare and Saare County.

Economic-studies is a part from career studies in curriculeum.

The graduater of basic school (16 year old student) is able to make the right choise- to continue studies in a secondary school or a vocational school.

SUMMARY

Opening the GEBP project to younger age group (for basic school students) was a new challenge. We had secong thoughts: are children, aged from 14-16, interested in economic, enterprising, banking

The short summary of this report is: • taking part in GEBP project was productive • we got a lot of interesting information how is economic and enterprising introduced in different regions of EU • we got aquainted with Hillerode school students’ work about the region’s history, and geography by e-mail • students visited companies in Kuressaare and Saare County to see the real work and production.
