ERCES £r PLRCES TOJ STARS HIGHLIGHT KISS 108 B -DAY BASH Some of the hottest stars in the music galaxy were on hand June 2 as Pyramid Broadcasting's KISS -108 (WXKS-FM, Boston) celebrated its 11th Anniversary with a concert at the Great Woods Center near Boston. Pyramid CEO Richard Balsbaugh presented producer Maurice Starr with an award commemorating his accomplishments in music, which include the formation of New Edition and New Kids On The Block, and 15,000 fans jammed to the sounds of 20 major acts. The event raised $50,000 for The Genesis Fund, an organization which promotes funding for the treatment of handicapped children. In addition, KISS 108 PD Sunny Joe White organized the taping of On A Wing Ard A Prayer, an all-star single produced by Starr to benefit AIDS research. The project, dubbed "Band In Boston," includes New Kids, M.C. Hammer, Eddie Money, Bell Biv Devoe, Smokey Robinson, and Louie Louie. BY EILEEN SHAPIRO CELEBRITY CORRESPONDENT THE BOYBAND PROJECT Contemporary boy band cover group The Boy Band Project is an effervescent, energy-ridden, talented bunch of sexy boys, all complete with Broadway credits, the members having met in the off-Broadway show Altar Boyz. The group covers boy bands from the ‘90s such as Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, O-Town, 98 Degrees, Boyz II Men, *NSYNC and beyond, including One Direction, The Four Seasons, The Jackson Five, The Beach Boys and The Bee Gees. The group’s shows are interactive and nostalgic as well as funny and entertaining. Travis Nesbitt, “The Sensitive One” and self-proclaimed leader of the group, has appeared in Altar Boyz, The Producers and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. He originates from Orange County, California, and takes his inspirations from Lance Bass of *NYSNC and Jonathan Knight of New Kids on the Block. Jesse Johnson, “The Edgy One,” hails from Denver, Colorado, and is inspired by AJ of Backstreet Boys and JC of *NSYNC. He has been cast in 9 to 5, Wicked, Grease, Altar Boyz and Xanadu. Marshal Carolan, “The Sporty One,” has been in Hair, Altar Boyz, Mamma Mia and The Radio City Spring Spectacular. His influences are Brian Littrell of Backstreet Boys and Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block. He is originally from Newport Beach, California. Neil Starkenberg, “The Boy Next Door” aka “The Baby,” is from Long Beach, California, and is inspired by Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys and Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block. Patrick Renna - Bio Patrick is a Senior Restaurant Executive with over 20 years of experience. He spent the past 5 years with Wahlburgers, a Boston based burger restaurant founded by Executive Chef Paul Wahlberg, and celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie Walhberg. He spent his first three years at Wahlburgers as its CFO and the last two years as President and CFO. Prior to that, Patrick served as CEO at Boloco, a fast casual globally inspired burrito chain, where he also served as CFO for four years. Prior to Boloco, Patrick was CFO at Sebastian’s Café and Catering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fidelity Investments, where he spent four years overseeing all financial and administrative policies and procedures for the company; this included leadership during the company’s most profitable growth period. Previously, he held CFO positions at Fresh Concepts, which operates fast casual restaurants under the name Fresh City and Souper Salad, as well as FiRE+iCE, where he also served as President. Patrick began his career with New England Restaurant Company, a Chili’s franchisee and owner of Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizzeria, a 90 unit casual dining chain. Patrick received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Franklin Pierce College, and went on to earn his MBA and Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. In 2020, Nation’s Restaurant News named Patrick as one of the most influential restaurant executives in the country and in 2019 Fast Casual magazine named Patrick as one of its top 25 executives. As rock journalism evolved in the 1960s and 1970s, so did two dismissive and misogynistic stereotypes about female fans: groupies and teenyboppers (Coates, 2003). While groupies were scorned in rock circles for their perceived hypersexuality, teenyboppers, who we can consider an umbrella term including boy band fanbases, were defined by a lack of sexuality and viewed as shallow, immature and prone to hysteria, and ridiculed as hall markers of bad taste, despite being driving forces in commercial markets (Ewens, 2020; Sherman, 2020). Similarly, boy bands have been disdained for their perceived femininity and viewed as inauthentic compared to “real” artists— namely, hypermasculine male rock artists. While the boy band genre has evolved and experienced different eras, depictions of both the bands and their fans have stagnated in media, relying on these old stereotypes (Duffett, 2012). This paper aimed to investigate to what extent modern boy bands are portrayed differently from non-boy bands in music journalism through a quantitative content analysis coding articles for certain tropes and themes. -

New Kids on the Block The Life of a New-Born REIT/ Business Trust Newsletter for June 2019 It wouldn’t be outlandish to say that in recent years Singapore has become the REIT/ Business Trust capital of the East. REITs from not just within Singapore but from the U.S., Europe, China and Japan have been attracted to the SGX and listed their units here. At last count there were 44 REITs/ Business Trusts listed on the SGX of which 7 listed in the last three years alone. For yield-seeking investors, this has created a veritable feast from which to pick and choose from. However, a listing of a REIT hasn’t guaranteed success for the sponsors as measured by the total returns delivered by their trusts. REITs, being equity-like long duration bonds, are sensitive to changes in the interest rate environment and its future outlook. Given an environment of yo-yoing interest rates and a lower-for-longer global growth outlook, the performance of newly-listed REITs/ BTs on the SGX has been varied. We’ve been in the thick of things, trying to be early birds at spotting the ones to invest in. We seldom target just the headline yield of a newly-listed REIT. Given that it is not established yet, it is equally important to ascertain if there is potential for capital gains over the period that the REIT/BT’s undervaluation is discovered and the price appreciates. Our experience of investing in newly-listed REITs/BTs is what this month’s piece is all about. -

First Quarter and Year-to-Date Concerts Metrics and Outlook North America In North America through May 1, 2010, the company’s number of shows on sale was approximately 4,000, basically flat compared to the same date in 2009. Also through May 1, the company had sold approximately 11 million tickets for 2010 events, down 12% from the prior year, primarily due to our having 70 fewer arena shows this year as compared to the same period of 2009. The company currently expects to sell approximately 30 million tickets in North America in 2010, as compared to 28 million during 2009, an increase of 7%, while North American show count is expected to be flat year over year. Overall, the North American concerts business is expected to be the company’s primary growth engine for the full year 2010, currently anticipating adjusted operating income (AOI) growth of approximately 10% over 2009. International Internationally through May 1, 2010, the company’s number of promoted shows is up 7% compared to the same date in 2009. Also through May 1, the company had sold approximately 7.2 million tickets for 2010 events, down 25% from the prior year due to fewer stadium shows.
