Microsoft Flight Simulator X has been reviewed and edited a thousand times over by fans and the creation team alike, helping to improve the realism and the overall quality of the design for years to come. With these changes, bugs can be erased and new features can be added or improved upon to really help bring the entire project on tenfold. If you are looking to really see the benefits that can come from using a flight simulator that’s been patched up, then you need to consider downloading the Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 installation file. The second service pack for FSX was a huge addition to the overall series as it helped to smooth out many of the rougher edges still left over from Service Pack 1. This file helps to really re-calibrate many of the smaller things, and puts it all together in the perfect file that gives you an abundance of information as well as new additions to help complete your flight simulation experience. If you feel that FSX is a little bit lacking or it can be a bit tough at times, this is definitely worth trying out. What’s changed? Many of the changes that are brought into FSX through SP2 are designed to help improve performance as well as to help make the game look and run smoother in terms of graphical output. However, its main benefit that it brought to life was the fact that it; Allowed for total support with DirectX 10, allowing you to take things to the next level in terms of graphics Provided full multiplayer support for anyone who was using the FSX: Acceleration package. These two features are just the most key facets of what was included, but the majority of the features that were included are more minor and you may not even notice some of them in action. However, the main benefits of having SP2 installed s the massive difference to makes to the overall visuals throughout the game. When you are flying through the skies and the world looks far more reflective of the real thing, with rippling waters that are reflecting the sunlight, as well as smaller features like shadows being perfectly rendered in the cockpit, all help to bring the files together in perfect harmony, creating a truly outstanding piece of FSX adaption. After you have installed Service Pack 2, you will be able to play multiplayer games only with users who have installed either Service Pack 2 or Flight SimulatorX: Acceleration. Editorial. As a huge fan of the original FSX, I was personally surprised to see the massive depth of change that was included with SP2. Although Microsoft are fairly modest about the new features, only really trumpeting DX10 and online play, the variety of smaller things that they have worked on to help refine the entire experience and make it feel far more comfortable even for newer players is something that must be clearly applauded. I love being able to take to the skies in a flight simulator and actually feel like it’s happening in front of me. When FS2004 came out, it really felt like the peak of simulation at the time – it really matched up well with the majority of video games out at the same time in terms of graphical prowess. However, my original thoughts with FSX were that although the main thing – the flight simulation itself – was vastly improved, the overall graphical jump wasn’t as big as I had hoped for. Having looked at many photos before release and then spending hours playing it at the highest settings, I just felt like more modern games had shot away from what a flight simulator was going to be able to offer me. It was with great glee that I came across the changes brought to life in SP2, which really do make a massive difference. Most service packages for games are quite minimal and improve bugs and errors on the developer’s part, mainly; this really do add to the entire package for you, though. You’ll be able to really get a higher level of realism from the whole thing as it comes together so nicely. The most important thing that I needed to see, though, was the Acceleration package being compatible with multiplayer now. Although Acceleration comes with SP2 installed, for vanilla users who want to play with friends who use Acceleration online it was not possible; until this was released! It makes a massive difference being able to play with friends and other people if you don’t have the Acceleration package. I had only just bought FSX when the Acceleration addition was released so it was a bit annoying to have to shell out for extras – until I seen this package had been released. It helped me get compatibility and let met enjoy some of the main features brought forward without getting access to the Acceleration content. Until I was ready to buy it, though, this was totally fine with me! This is a well worthwhile addition if your own the vanilla FSX and feel that it’s either; Too limited in terms of graphical output and could do with a little boost in the right direction Lacking an online mode of any real repute or style. This SP2 addition is well worth downloading in my opinion – it’s completely free, for a start! Adam McEnroe. Adam McEnroe is a flight sim enthusiast who has been simming since the days of FS95.
