Producer/Director Jean Luc Young Shaggy's family moved to the United States from Jamaica and they settled in the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn, located in New York City. Shaggy moved to Valley Stream, New York, and made one of his own recording studios in the town. In 1988, he joined the United States Marine Corps as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman with 5th Battalion, 10th Marines. While enlisted in the Marines he served during Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. It was during this time that Shaggy perfected his signature singing voice, breaking the constant monotony of running and marching cadences with his flair for inflection. It is also where he got the inspiration for his song "Boombastic." In the early 1990’s Shaggy entered the scene with his deep throaty remix of the Jamaican traditional "Oh Carolina", the first major Reggae record to come out of the dancehall underground. The same year, Shaggy appeared on Kenny Dope's hip hop album "The Unreleased Project". He worked together with producers such as Sting Intl., Don One (who cut his first track), Lloyd 'Spiderman' Campbell and Robert Livingston. Soon after, the steady dub rhythm of the platinum selling "Boombastic" solidified Shaggy as a dancehall hit-maker winning the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. -

Le prince du dancehall Shaggy se produira sur la scène de l’OLM Souissi jeudi 26 mai 2016 Rabat – le 18 avril 2016 – L’Association Maroc Cultures est heureuse d’annoncer la venue de Shaggy à l’occasion de la 15ème édition du festival Mawazine Rythmes du Monde. Unique en son genre, le chanteur fait partie, aux côtés de Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff et Sean Paul, du cercle très fermé des artistes jamaïcains bénéficiant d’une reconnaissance mondiale. Programmé sur la scène de l’OLM Souissi le jeudi 26 mai, le concert de Shaggy promet aux festivaliers un show de pure folie avec la reprise de ses plus grands tubes, dont les immenses Boombastic et Wasn't me. Grâce à son style unique, il représente la rencontre du rap et du dancehall ; grâce à son timbre de voix, il est un crossover entre Barry White et Shabba Ranks. Some artists may glorify that, but other artists either decry it or offer it as a tragic reality. In hip-hop trends build off of music and music builds off of trends in a cyclical manner. -

What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator.
