Captain’s Responsibilities Before play commences: Team Sheets Captains shall exchange a list of their teams immediately before tossing Up to thirteen (13) players may be listed on the team sheet with notation against any player more than the standard eleven (11) players indicating which week the player will participate in the match If a player who is only available day one bats or bowls in an innings which carries over to day two, then his replacement in day two is not permitted to bat or bowl in the same innings Players that are U/19 must be noted on team sheet (bowling restrictions) Captains need to be aware of overs bowled if any in Junior Competition on that day of players who are U/19. Captain’s Responsibilities During Play: The Preamble – Further discussion in Umpires Presentation Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains. 1. There are two Laws which place the responsibility for the team's conduct firmly on the captain. Responsibility of captains The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws. Player’s conduct In the event of a player failing to comply with instructions by an umpire, or criticising by word or action the decisions of an umpire, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute, the umpire concerned shall in the first place report the matter to the other umpire and to the player's captain, and instruct the latter to take action. Captain’s Responsibilities During Play: The Preamble – Player’s Conduct con’t Player’s conduct:- Fair and unfair play According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges of fair and unfair play. The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the responsibility of the captain to take action where required. The umpires are authorised to intervene in cases of: Time wasting Damaging the pitch Dangerous or unfair bowling Tampering with the ball Any other action that they consider to be unfair Captain’s Responsibilities During Play: The Preamble – Player’s Conduct con’t Player’s conduct:- The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for: Your opponents Your own captain and team The role of the umpires The game and its traditional values It is against the Spirit of the Game: To dispute an umpire's decision by word, action or gesture To direct abusive language towards an opponent or an umpire To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance: (a) to appeal knowing that the batsman is not out (b) to advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing (c) to seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one's own side Captain’s Responsibilities During Play: The Preamble – Player’s Conduct con’t Player’s conduct:- Violence There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play. Players Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this. Captain’s Responsibilities Before and During Play: Fitness of Grounds, Weather & Light Fitness of the ground for play:- Captains are the sole judges for the fitness of the ground for play; if they disagree , the official umpire shall decide, if there is no official umpire present the “Status quo” shall be maintained Lightning Rule:- Play shall cease immediately, in the event that a lightning flash is followed by thunder less than 30 seconds later. Play shall not resume until 30 minutes after the last such lightning flash. Light: Umpires are sole judge of light, if no official umpires present, play shall continue unless the Captains agree to the contrary. Only the batting side has the right to appeal against the light. Only one appeal is needed Captain’s Responsibilities Before and During Play: Fitness of Grounds, Weather & Light Fitness of the ground for play:- In the event of a dispute between the two Captains as to the fitness of the field for play prior to the commencement for the day the Captains may request an independent arbiter, if available, to attend the ground to settle the discussion. The determination of the independent arbiter will be final. Captain’s Responsibilities Before and During Play: Fitness of Grounds, Weather & Light Turf Wicket Maintenance In order for play to proceed, sawdust or grass clippings may be used to provide a safe playing area. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES may any other materials (e.g. woodchip, wood shavings) be used on the turf square. Sand may be used off the turf square. Equipment (e.g. blowers & dryers) can be used to increase the evaporation of moisture but no absorbent objects (e.g .towels, sponges) can be placed on the wicket surface. Captain’s Responsibilities Conclusion of Match Result agreed to at ground Scorebooks must be kept up to date and agreed to at the game. Player Team sheets must be entered into MyCricket by 10am Tuesday morning following day 1 by both teams. Progress scores for two day matches must be entered into MyCricket by the home team no later than 10am Tuesday after day one. At the conclusion of the match, results and scorecards must be entered into MyCricket by 10am Tuesday. If you disagree with scores that have been entered, please dispute the result. NCU Rules: Two Day Matches:- Commence at 1:00pm Conclude at 6:00pm (provided minimum overs bowled) Tea break 3:20pm to 3:40pm subject to :- If time lost prior to tea break then the tea break will be delayed by half the time lost If more than 105 minutes of play are lost to the tea break then the tea break shall not be taken Drinks breaks should not exceed 3 ½ minutes in the middle of any session scheduled for at least ninety (90) minutes NCU Rules: Two Day Matches – Over Requirements There must be bowled a minimum of 75 overs throughout the days play Play continues until minimum overs completed (light & weather permitting) If there is an innings break then deduct 3 overs (10 minute break, except tea) If there is a stoppage in play one over shall be deducted for every three-and- a-half (3 ½) minutes lost If play is abandoned in any match, for any reason, on the first day of a two- day game, with the exception of semi-finals & finals, then the second day will be played as a one-day game If 9 wickets down at Schedules Tea Break – Play continues for another 30 minutes - mandatory(as per MCC Rule 15.8) NCU Rules: Two Day Matches – Semi Finals & Finals Conducted over two consecutive days Where the first day is abandoned:- play will commence at 12:30pm on the second day and will not proceed past 6:30pm There will be a minimum of 100 overs bowled in total and the tea break will be taken from 3:20pm to 3:40pm NCU Rules: One Day Matches Play Commences at 12:30pm 20 Minutes between innings Each team receives 40 overs Bowlers maximum of 8 overs NCU Rules: One Day Matches – Loss of Playing Time If play cannot be commenced on time, or is interrupted, then play must cease at 6:30pm irrespective of the number of balls bowled. If playing time is lost due to weather or conditions:- prior to the conclusion of the first innings then one over shall be deducted from each innings for every seven minutes lost After the conclusion of the first innings then one over shall be deducted for every three-and-a-half (3 ½) minutes lost There must be a minimum of 20 overs received by each side , unless dismissed or a result is obtained, to constitute a match NCU Rules: One Day Matches – Result The result shall be determined as follows:- If the quota of overs for both teams is the same then the result is determined on the basis of runs scored. If – The team batting second does not receive its full quota of overs and is not dismissed, or The team batting second receives its full quota of overs which is less than for the team batting first Then the result shall be decided on a comparison of the run rate of both teams as calculated below. NCU Rules: One Day Matches – Result cont. The run rate is calculated by dividing the total number of runs scored by the total number of legitimate balls received. If a team has been dismissed before it has received its full quota of overs, its run rate shall be calculated by dividing the total number of runs scored by the full quota of overs it was entitled to receive. Unless a result is achieved beforehand, the match shall be a draw unless the team batting second has received 20 overs.
