Ihr Alltag sollte sich eigentlich um die Vorberei- tung auf das College und ihr Baseball-Team drehen - wird aber vielmehr von heißer Musik, verrückten Partys, viel Marihuana, noch mehr Alkohol und natürlich jungen Frauen bestimmt. Es geht um Männer- freundschaften und Rivalitäten, um Leidenschaft und ungestüme Lebenslust - und manchmal sogar um die Liebe. Gemeinsam versuchen die unbeaufsichtigten Jungs ihren Weg zwischen den Freiheiten des Jungseins und den Verpflichtungen des Erwachsenwerdens zu finden - bevor am nahenden Montag die Schulglocke klingelt und der Ernst des Lebens beginnt … Erzählt wird EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! aus Sicht des College-Neulings Jake Bradford (Blake Jenner), der mit seinen Klamotten und einer Kiste voller Schallplatten das Studentenwohnhaus erreicht, das die texanische Stadt den Mitgliedern des örtlichen Baseball-Teams zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Er lernt zunächst die Hierarchien unter den verschiedenen Spielern kennen - so sehen die Schläger traditi- onell auf die Werfer herab, und machen sich einen Spaß daraus, dies auch bei jeder Gelegenheit zu betonen. Alle gemeinsam jedoch sind vereint, sobald es Abend wird und die nächste Party oder der nächste Disco-Besuch auf dem Programm steht. Denn ans Lernen oder Trainieren denkt von den Jungs niemand, ganz im Gegenteil geht es rund um die Uhr darum, Mädchen kennenzulernen und möglichst viele Abenteuer zu erleben. Schon kurz nach seiner Ankunft lernt Jake die hübsche Schau- spielstudentin Beverly (Zoey Deutch) kennen, doch bevor er ein erstes Date landen kann, bekommt er von seinem Team einen Crash-Kurs als Mitglied des Baseball-Teams. Dazu gehören die verrücktesten Wetten ebenso wie Trinkrituale und gepflegter Marihuana-Konsum - auch wenn die Jungs dann bei ihrem ersten Baseball-Training wieder erstaunlich fit sind. Nachdem er die ganze Stadt erkundet und keinen exotischen Nachtclub ausgelassen hat, darunter auch ein Punk-Schuppen und eine Cowboy-Bar, verabredet sich Jake am letzten Abend vor Schulbeginn mit Beverly. Bei einer Party von Kunststuden- ten verstehen sich die beiden so gut, dass sie noch im Morgengrauen so vertraut miteinander reden wie neue, beste Freunde - so scheint das Ende der Ferien nicht nur für Jake auch den Beginn des Erwachsenwerdens zu markieren … EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! ist eine herrlich nostalgische Komödie mit Kult-Potential, die den Zuschauer direkt in das Jahr 1980 führt, als eine Gruppe von Freunden das letzte freie Wochenende vor Studien- beginn in vollen Zügen genießt. Der Film wurde inszeniert vom preisgekrönten Regisseur Richard Linklater (BOYHOOD, BEFORE SUNRISE / SUNSET / MIDNIGHT), der auch das Drehbuch geschrieben hat - und ist thematisch angeknüpft an seinen Coming-of-Age-Film CONFUSION – SOMMER DER AUSGEFLIPPTEN (OT: DAZED AND CONFUSED). Wie schon bei CONFUSION - SOMMER DER AUSGEFLIPPTEN hat Linklater vor der Kamera auch diesmal ein Ensemble weitgehend unbekannter Darsteller versammelt, die an der Schwelle zum Hollywood-Durchbruch stehen - darunter Blake Jenner („Glee“), Zoey Deutch (DIRTY GRANDPA), Ryan Guzman (THE BOY NEXT DOOR), Tyler Hoechlin (ROAD TO PERDITION), Glen Powell (EXPANDABLES 3) und Juston Street (DEEPWATER HORIZON). Produziert wurde EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! von Megan Ellison, Ginger Sledge und Richard Linklater. Als ausführende Produzenten fungierten Sean Daniel, John Sloss und Stephen Feder. Der ehemalige Schauspieler und kalifornische Gouverneur Ronald Reagan machte Jimmy Carter die Präsidentschaft streitig. In Osteuropa gründeten die Arbeiter Gewerkschaften und schwächten das erdrückende Regime der Sowjetunion. Und an der Southeast Texas State University wagte der frisch gebackene Student Jake Bradford (Blake Jenner) seine ersten, ungelenken Schritte ins Leben als Erwachsener. „Das Ganze ist ziemlich autobiographisch“, gibt Richard Linklater zu, der Oscar®-nominierte Regisseur, Autor und Produ- zent von EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!. „Rückblickend wird mir klar, dass ich nicht nur persönlich eine sehr lustige Zeit auf dem College hatte, sondern mich in einer interessanten kulturellen Phase befand. Es war immer noch wie das Ende der Siebziger, denn das, was die Leute gemeinhin mit den Achtzigern assoziieren, ging so richtig erst 1982 oder 1983 los.“ Bei seiner Ankunft im Studentenwohnheim, das die Southeast Texas University für die Baseball-Mannschaft reserviert hat, erfährt Jake zunächst eine alles andere als freundliche Begrüßung durch den älteren Glenn McReynolds (Tyler Hoechlin) und seinen Zimmergenossen Roper (Ryan Guzman). „McReynolds und Roper sehen es als ihre Verpflichtung an, die Neuen ein wenig abzuhärten“, erklärt Hoechlin die anfängliche Feindseligkeit seiner Figur. „Jake war an seiner Highschool als Star-Athlet ein gewisses Maß an Respekt gewohnt“, ergänzt Jenner, „doch er muss schnell lernen, dass diese Zeiten in seinem neuen Team vorbei sind.“ Schlimmer noch: Jake ist Pitcher, eine Position, die McReynolds als „merkwürdig“ und „notwendiges Übel“ ansieht - eine Meinung, die vom Bullpen geteilt wird. Zur Mannschaft gehören Willoughby (Wyatt Russell), ein Marihuana-rauchender Mystiker und begeisterter Verehrer des Kosmos‘, Jay Niles (Juston Street), der der Illusion unterliegt, er sei ein so guter Baseballspieler wie Nolan Ryan, Nesbit (Austin Amelio), ein hoffnungslos Spielsüchtiger, und der gutmütige Billy Autry (Will Brittain), der von seinen Mitbewohnern sofort den wenig schmeichelhaften Spitznamen „Beuter Perkins“ bekommt. Den Gegenpart zu McReynolds und Roper nimmt der charismatische Schnellredner Finnegan (Glen Po- well) ein. „Finn baut die Erstsemester wieder auf, nachdem sie von McReynolds und Roper auseinan- der genommen wurden“, sagt Powell über seine Rolle, „er spielt auch Streiche, aber keine bösartigen. Er sieht das Ganze als Initiationsritual. Einmal sagt er ‚Wir alle sind mal der Dummkopf. Man muss das Dummkopfsein einfach akzeptieren und dann an den nächsten weitergeben.‘“ Finn ist es dann auch, der die Neulinge unter seine Fittiche nimmt, und sie durch diese neue Welt voller Freiheiten führt. „Finn liebt genau zwei Dinge, nämlich Baseball und Sex“, weiß Powell, „wenn er Baseball spielt, denkt er an Sex, und wenn er Sex hat, denkt er an Baseball.“ Die Tour beginnt für Jake mit einem Ausflug zum Studentenwohnheim der Mädchen, wo sich Finn zwar eine herbe Abfuhr einhandelt, aber Jake zum ersten Mal ein Auge auf Beverly (Zoey Deutch) wirft, eine junge Theaterstudentin. „Beverly ist alles, was Jake nicht ist“, sagt Deutch, „sie ist eine Schauspie- lerin, die nichts über die Welt des Sports weiß, während Jake keine Ahnung von Theater hat. Dennoch verspüren die beiden eine Anziehungskraft und haben ein Wochenende Zeit, diese zu erkunden, bevor die Schule beginnt und jeder in seine Routine verfällt.“ AN DEN FALSCHEN ORTEN AUF DER SUCHE NACH LIEBE Während die Zeit bis zur ersten Unterrichtsstunde abläuft, schmeißen sich die Jungs in die besten Kleider, die 1980 zu bieten hat. The acclaimed program draws thousands of fans, filmmakers, press, and industry leaders every year to immerse themselves in the most innovative, smart and entertaining new films of the year. During the nine days of SXSW 132 features will be shown, with additional titles yet to be announced. The full lineup will include 44 films from first-time filmmakers, 86 World Premieres, 11 North American Premieres and 5 U.S. Premieres. These films were selected from 2,458 feature-length film submissions, with a total of 8,160 films submitted this year. “2018 marks the 25th edition of the SXSW Film Festival and my tenth year at the helm.
