Now with no returning starters but still a handful of players who were part of the incredible ride, the 2011-2012 will begin it’s journey down the “Road to Repeat.” Maybe most important is that the coaching staff from last season all returns to lead this year’s team. “Perhaps the best recruits we were able to re-sign for this upcoming season were our outstanding assistant coaches - Josh Dees, Ryan Devlin and Colby Blaine,” said Golden Eagle head coach Steve Gosar. “Each of these guys had opportunities this summer to leave CSI, but each chose to stay and take on the challenge of try- ing to help us repeat as national champions. I’m very thankful for their loyalty and hard work.” On the court, Gosar will look to Fabyon Harris (guard), Kevin Attila (guard), Gerson Santo (power forward) and Paul Bunch (center), who all played minutes for the Golden Eagles last season. In addition to those four players, red-shirts Jon Pulsifer (guard), Dennis Mikelonis (forward) and Luke Cothron (forward) return, having been a part of the magical season. Pulsifer and Cothron are freshmen eligibility-wise. Mikelonis played for the Golden Eagles in 2009-2010 before sitting out last season with a knee injury. CSI will look to the experience of five returning sophomores as well as incoming sophomore transfers Pat 4 2011-12 Outlook Swilling (St. Joes University), Rafriel Guthrie (Seward County CC) and Paul Egwuonwu (Northwest Nazarene Univ.) “This year’s team is going to be fun and challenging to coach,” Gosar said. “Challenging in that we have no returning starters and only two

BASKE TBALL AND PHILOSOPHY The Philosophy of Popular Culture The books published in the Philosophy of Popular Culture series will il- luminate and explore philosophical themes and ideas that occur in popu- lar culture. The goal of this series is to demonstrate how philosophical inquiry has been reinvigorated by increased scholarly interest in the inter- section of popular culture and philosophy, as well as to explore through philosophical analysis beloved modes of entertainment, such as movies, TV shows, and music. Philosophical concepts will be made accessible to the general reader through examples in popular culture. This series seeks to publish both established and emerging scholars who will engage a major area of popular culture for philosophical interpretation and exam- ine the philosophical underpinnings of its themes. Eschewing ephemeral trends of philosophical and cultural theory, authors will establish and elaborate on connections between traditional philosophical ideas from important thinkers and the ever-expanding world of popular culture. • This Is Cowboy Basketball
This is Cowboy Basketball " What it means to me to put on a Cowboy uniform and play in the Arena-Auditorium is kind of indescribable. To play at the only Division I university in the entire state, and not only that but to play at the same place both of my parents played, is amazing. I get goose bumps just walking into the Arena-Auditorium for practice, not even a game. I can't tell you how great I feel about putting on the Brown and Gold and having the opportunity to be a Cowboy. It is truly amazing and I thank God everyday that I get to be a part of something bigger than me."” Adam Waddell, Cody, Wyo. Sophomore Center The 1943 NCAA Champion Wyoming Cowboys. WINNING TRADITION owboy Basketball tradition is a rich one, including an NCAA National Championship team, a former coach who is WINNING a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, an All-American who is credited with one of the greatest innovations in C the history of the game and one of the most memorable players in NCAA history. In 1943, the University of Wyoming was led to the NCAA Championship by legendary coach Everett Shelton. Shelton’s 1943 Cowboy squad defeated Georgetown in the NCAA Championship game in Madison Square Garden. Two nights later, also in Madison Square Garden, the Cowboys earned the right to call themselves undisputed National Champions as they defeated that year’s NIT Champion, St. John’s University, in a game benefi tting the Red Cross. In 1982, Coach Shelton’s memory was immortalized with the highest honor in basketball — induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfi eld, Mass.
