THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED MARY

Dear Family,

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name.” Luke 1:46–49

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Solemnity of the Assumption honors the fact that when the Blessed Virgin Mary completed her life on earth, she never experienced death. Instead, at that glorious moment, she was singly privileged to be taken body and soul into Heaven to be with her resurrected Son so as to adore the Most Holy Trinity forever. The passage quoted above comes from the beginning of Mary’s song of praise, her Magnificat, by which she not only gives the greatest glory to God but also reveals who she is. She is the one whom “all generations” will call “blessed.” She is the one for whom “the Almighty has done great things.” She is the one who will eternally proclaim “the greatness of the Lord” and whose spirit will forever rejoice in God her Savior. And she is that lowliest of servants whom God has raised up to the greatest glory. For Gertrude Warrenburg and Bo Douglas, who were baptized last weekend, may their new life in Christ help them to grow ever more in wisdom, age, and grace. St. Pius X will host a Blood Drive via the Bloodmobile on Monday, August 16th in the front (south) church parking lot. Please schedule an appointment to donate through this link: donate.indiana.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/138078 Appointments are available from 1:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. *The deferral for a COVID-19 vaccination is two full days* (receive vaccination on Monday, eligible to donate on Thursday). *Masks required only for non-vaccinated donors* Please bring photo ID, eat and hydrate. Young Adults’, join us Saturday, August 21st, for a day of kayaking on the White River. We’ll meet at White River Canoe Co. in Noblesville (17180 River Road) at 10:30 a.m. and will be done around 4:30 p.m. Cost is $30. Bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks! To R.S.V.P., please email Mo McReynolds at [email protected] by August 16th. The Feast of our patron , Pius X, is Saturday, August 21st. Join us for light refreshments Saturday, August 21st and Sunday, August 22nd, after all Masses. Come and socialize with your fellow parishioners as we honor our . Here are a few quick facts about Pope Saint Pius X: Pope Saint Pius the X was also called Giuseppe Sarto. He was born into a large, poor, Italian family in 1835 and chosen as pope in 1903. Just two years later, in 1905, he issued a decree encouraging Catholics to receive communion frequently, even daily! This was revolutionary – previously, Catholics were required to endure tedious preparation for the Sacrament, and it was seen as a “reward” for good actions rather than as a gift of healing and forgiveness. Pope Pius X helped the Church understand that the presence of Jesus in the was a gift to us, and we do not have to be perfect to receive Him. Shortly thereafter, in 1910, Pope Pius X issued a decree on “early Communion”, saying that the of children should not be put off until the age of 12 or 14, as was common practice, but celebrated at the “age of discretion” – 7 years old.

Love, Fr. Francis

“And Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; Please remember in your prayers my spirit rejoices in God my savior.” - Luke 1:46

After Jesus, we look to Mary as our model of stewardship. Her Nancy Catton, daughter of Dorothy Catton entire life was lived in obedience to God’s will. Just as the moon Larry Darling, husband of Pat Darling reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ. Like Tom Sukup, brother of Jim (Mary) Sukup Mary, we too are called to reflect Christ to the world. We do this by living grateful and generous lives. We do this by putting other’s needs before our wants. - www.archstl.org May they have eternal peace in heaven.
