12th April Last week was a busy one for the camogie club. But it was pretty successful with each of the 4 teams in action managing to achieve good results. The seniors have won their opening two games, so now have the under 18s, while the under 16s and under 14s achieved creditable results, considering both are in the A league. Under 16 league : 5-10 Brídíní Óga 0-0 A very good performance against the team expecting to win this competition. Everyone worked very hard and made it far from as one- sided a game as the scoreline suggests. This is the standard of the A competition and we can really learn from games like this. Every player can look back at a lot of positives – despite the result going against us. Brídíní Óga : Áine Duffin, Chantelle McLarnon, Ellen Hynds, Lauren Edgar, Niamh Gould, Laoise McKenna, Jeni Dillon, Kirsty Laverty, Colleen NcNeill, Leona Traynor, Victoria Edgar, Kirsten Edgar, Sinéad Small, Róisín Speers, Caitríona Speers. Under 16 league : 0-3 Brídíní Óga 2-5 This game turned out to be very scrappy and Portglenone did well to contain us around the centre of the pitch and crowd us out. We dominated it from start to finish, but should have scored a lot more. There wasn’t a time when we looked likely to concede a goal that would have left us with a struggle to win – but we did not post enough scores either! However a number of players are starting to find their feet and confidence. Today it was Kirsten, Ellen, Clodagh and Jeni, with Leona coming good after an edgy start. Our next game is going to be a tough one, but if we really show what we can do, we perform well. Brídíní Óga : Áine Duffin, Chantelle McLarnon, Ellen Hynds, Lauren Edgar 1-0, Laoise McKenna, Jeni Dillon, Kirsten Edgar, Clodagh McCann, Colleen NcNeill, Leona Traynor, Victoria Edgar 1-5, Sinéad Small, Róisín Speers, Caitríona Speers. Under 18 league : All Saints 1-1 Brídíní Óga 7-4 Well done girls on making this a good work-out. Everyone can use matches like this where you get a little more time on the ball to do things that they wouldn’t normally do in games – and gain confidence. Half-time was 1-4 to 1-0, and we certainly went for the net in the second half. Brídíní Óga : Áine Duffin 1-0, Kirsten Edgar, Kerri-Rose McElroy, Lauren Edgar, Dervla Donaghy, Rachel McBride 0-2, Clodagh McCann, Jeni Dillon, Emer Higgins, Kirsty Laverty, Colleen McNeill, Leona Traynor 1-1, Victoria Edgar 3-1, Roisin Speers 1-0, Caitriona Speers 1-0. Féile na nGael : Brídíní Óga 1-0- Dunloy 1-0 Brídíní Óga under 14s took to the field on Wednesday night on the back of an overwhelming defeat by Ballycastle only 4 days earlier. However the team that played against Dunloy had a much more focused and determined attitude. The first 10 minutes of the encounter saw us defend our goal against a strong Dunloy attack. However Niamh , Ellie and Clodagh (Martinstown) stood strong and cleared their lines. Our half back line of EllaMay, Ellen and Clodagh (Cargan) began to take control in the first half and along with Kirsten and Kirsty in midfield Brídíní Óga started to dominate the game forcing Dunloy into giving away a number of frees . It was from one these frees beyond the 65 that Victoria struck a fabulous ball that soared into the top corner of the goal giving us the lead. Our other half forwards Caoimhe and Ciara both fought hard up front continuing to keep pressure on the Dunloy defence ably supported by the full forward line of Anna, Hannah and Nicole. 2nd Half Some changes during the break saw Aisling replace Caoimhe in the half forward line striking the ball well when she got the opportunity. Erin G also came in to replace Nicole and fought well against a much bigger Dunloy defence. The second half was a physical affair and our midfield and half-backs had to fight hard again and again to keep the Dunloy attack at bay. Clodagh (Cargan) and Ellen both played very well clearing each wave of attack. Ella May put in another great performance as she has for every match to date. Shauna came on midway through the second half to boast a struggling forward line. Regrettably with only 7 minutes to go and under relentless pressure our back line gave away a free and Dunloy took full advantage by driving the ball hard into the back of the net. We continued to defend with a great spirit for the remainder of the match losing Victoria to injury but she was replaced by a very keen Aideen. A word of praise for our goalkeeper Bronagh. She continues to put in great performances and relieve pressure on our back line with lengthy puck outs. A new member to our squad this year is Anna F who works well with the other girls in the team and will be another valued member of Bridini Oga . Brídíní Óga : Victoria (1-0), Kirsty, Clodagh (M), Clodagh (C), Niamh, Kirsten, Ellie, Ellen, Ciara, Bronagh, Ella-May, Hannah, Nicole, Caoimhe, Aisling, Erin, Anna, Anna F, Aideen, Shauna

Both games were against teams who defeated us last year; First up, on Monday night in Fr Maginn Park, were Loughgeil who defeated us in the Junior championship last year. This was a game we should have won by more than the final outcome. We started well with a point from Caoimhe which was then followed by a goal after great work from Shauna in the left corner, pulling the ball back to the 21yd line for Caoimhe to take well and blast to the net. We then followed this up with a point from Eimher H & two more pointed frees from Caoimhe. Loughgeil then started to get more of a grip on things but our defence stood strong and the visitors were restricted to scoring one pointed free to leave the half-time score 1-04 to 0-01 in favour of Bridini Og. The second period was another fine effort from our girls but we should have capitalised by more than our two points from Caoimhe in the first 15mins of this half. After this initial attacking dominance we had a spell of good defensive work after which things got a bit chaotic as Loughgeil scored a goal & a point within a two minute period to leave four points in it with five minutes left on the clock. Two minute later Caoimhe slotted over a point from the left side and this was to be the final score of the game. Team: Kerri-Rose McElroy, Leanne Kerr, Bernadette Convery, Bronagh Shannon, Amy Dillon, Danielle Scally, Rachel McBride, Joanne McKeown, Eimher Higgins, Danielle O’Hagan, Caoimhe McAleenan, Catherine Gould, Kerry O’Boyle, Shauna Kelly, Marie Donnelly, Dervla Donaghy, Catherine McQuillan, Keera Kerr, Niamh Canavan FINAL SCORE: Bridini Og 1-07 Loughgeil 1-02

Next up was St Johns, who beat us twice in the league campaign in 2012. The Glenravel girls opened strongly with wind advantage, at a cold and blustery Feystown but had only two converted frees from Caoimhe to show for a lot of dominance in the opening 10minutes of play. Shauna at full forward was making herself available at every opportunity and was unlucky not to have two goals against her name during this period. This was punished when a rare Carnlough attack resulted in a goal to leave us a point down. Immediately we broke up the field and a long ball from Danielle S found Shauna once again in acres of space, she rounded her marker well and struck to the net for a well worked goal. Caoimhe followed this up with a point on 17mins & Shauna got her second goal three minutes later. Carnlough then pressed forward and but for some resolute defending we would have conceded more than the one more goal recorded against us. Eimher H then got on the scoresheet with a goal and Caoimhe rounded off the scoring in the first half with a pointed free to leave us leading 3-04 to 2-00 at half time. With the wind against us in the second half we were under the cosh for a lot of the final 30 minutes but our defence stood strong against the Carnlough “runners”. The opposition were thwarted time after time and were limited to a goal (10mins) & two points (4th & 22nd mins) for their efforts. After soaking up a lot of pressure Bridini Og broke quickly in the 26th minute for Super-sub Sabrina, with her first touch of the game, to slot to the net to help ease the tension on the sideline. Shauna, two minutes from time had the final say with another well taken major. Team: Kerri-Rose McElroy, Leanne Kerr, Bernadette Convery, Bronagh Shannon, Amy Dillon, Danielle Scally, Rachel McBride, Joanne McKeown, Eimher Higgins, Danielle O’Hagan, Caoimhe McAleenan, Marie Donnelly, Dervla Donaghy,, Shauna Kelly, Gemma McKeown, Keera Kerr, Niamh Canavan, Sabrina Speers FINAL SCORE: Bridini Og 5-04 St. John’s, Carnlough 3-02 Another good win and four points out of a possible four for a great start to the 2013 league campaign – Well done girls!!

FULL TIME SCORE Glenravel 1: 09 Bredagh 2 : 13 This was Glenravel's first match in this years league campaign, so it was to be a learning process and to shake off the cobwebs. Bredagh on the other hand had played a previous game and racked up a high score, a week ago. It was to be Bredagh to get the first point on 4 minutes by their wing half No. 12. Conn Magee's Glenravel where in the early stages, having to defend some Bredagh attacks, and a clearance from Cormac Scullion to the forward line, where Declan Trainor pulled sweetly on a ground ball to the corner of the Bredagh net. The Belfast guys then went on a scoring spree, hitting 3 unanswered points (2 by No. 10 and 1 by No. 11). Glenravel where unlucky when what should have been a free(push in the back) Bredagh worked the ball into their No 13 who pulled the sliotár to the Glenravel net taking a 4 point lead. It was'nt until the 17th minute when the home side raised the white flag, when big Niall Donnelly pointed a 30 yard free. Again Bredagh players No.08 and No.11 scored 3 more points to extend their advantage. The green and whites where winning a lot of possession but couldn't turn it into scores as Bredagh played with the wind in this first half. A high ball was collected by young county minor star James Duffin for Glenravel on 22 minutes, he rounded his marker and split the uprights with a fine point. The south Belfast outfit again raised their game and scored another hat trick of scores with No.s 05, 08 and 10 all pointing, the former a free and the latter score being a "70". Big Niall No.10 again struck from a dead ball free on 80 yards, nicely over the bar to round off this first half. Half time Glenravel 1 : 03 Bredagh 1 : 10 2 minutes into the second half had lapsed and the city guys pointed to extend their advantage to 8 points. This is when the home team took root, and decided to up the ante and use the wind advantage to their gain. Niall pointed a 35 yard free to stop the rot from the first half on 36 minutes. Neil Mc Cann (manager of the senior Team) came on for Stevie Atcheson on 37 minutes. Niall dispatched another "70" over the bar on 38 mins. Our "evergreen" manager Vic (as everyone knows him) then got in on the act and struck a sublime effort from 40 yards to eat into the Bredagh lead. James Duffin working at full forward hit the wing to claim a ball, and unselfishly passed to Shan Lee Kerr who knocked over a nice point. Four unanswered points in a row from the Conn Magee's, soon turned into 6, for again Niall Donnelly scored a 80 yard free, closely followed by a fine solo effort by Vic, who darted through the Bredagh rear guard and slotted over the black spot on 50 minutes! The city guys then scored a brace by their No. 11 and 13, on 52 and 53 minutes. Damien O Hagan was introduced for Shan Lee Kerr on 55 minutes who retired with a leg injury. Glenravel in the closing stages sent in 3 dropping balls but where either cleared or fell wide, these vital misses cost dearly, as the ball was cleared upfield to an awaiting forward, who struck the sliotár violently, but young keeper Sean McIlroy pulled off a brilliant save, but a in-running No.14 pulled the ball to the Glenravel net. Another couple of efforts fell to Glenravel, but to no joy, shortly afterwards the referee called for the ball to conclude this match. Glenravel 1 : 09 Bredagh 2 : 13 With 55 minutes on the clock this game could have gone either way. For Glenravel's tails where up after scoring 6 unanswered points. But for some wayward shooting late on , the scoreline could have been so different. Bredagh had the majority of play in the first half, taking advantage of the wind blowing down the pitch and just about held their lead. But to their credit Glenravel's heads never dropped and totally ruled the 2nd half, ironing out any early mistakes. Both clubs should compete well in Div. 3. Can I also add that due to some serious wrong decisions by the "man in the middle" we would have been more in this game. Our frustration at some decisions caused us to foul the opposition and conceed free's, but lets not forget lads its only our first match this year. Bredagh have been playing in the All Ireland Junior Club Finals and have been training since last spt/oct. LADS hold your heads high, GOOD TIMES TO COME.... Conn Mág Aóidh Gleánn Fhréabhail Abú.

St John’s registered the first point of the game however Glenravel responded with a goal crafted out of pressure on the St John’s defence. Eventually the ball crossed into the square and there to rattle the net was Conal Gould. We had our spells of dominance in the half and added 2 further points from Sean and Conor C and Gareth to leave us within 2 points of St John’s at half time. Starting the second half brightly, we again netted after 5 minutes, another opportunist goal, this time from Don Whelan. For the next 10 minutes we had control of the game and had a number of goal and point chances but did not convert. This was to be the telling period of the game. In the last 10 minutes St John’s took control and added a further 2-4 with only a single point from Glenravel. A lot of positives from the game, Jonathan had a good games in goals with the highlight being a 1st half penalty save. Benny, Paul and Conor had a challenging evening trying to marshall the St John’s full forward line and stuck to their task manfully. At half back James Mc, Gareth and Eamon were excellent and were the foundation for the Glenravel. We won much of the midfield battle with Darren and Andy working tirelessly and giving us a lot of options up the centre. The half forward line of Don, Conal and Sean tormented the St John’s defence for 50 minutes with great movement and team play and our full forwards Aidan O, James D and Aidan Mc harried for every ball till the end. Of the bench Conal Kerr came on and put in an eye catching performance in defence and Caolan when he got his chance also contributed well. Overall some disappointment at the final result, if we had taken our opportunities in that crucial spell in the 2nd half the story could have been very different. However a lot to be positive on, attitude and commitment could not be faulted, our discipline and intensity were good and we strung some eye catching play together. Team : Jonathan Fyfe, Benny Lynas, Paul McCurry, Conor Carey, Eamon Fyfe, Gareth McKeown, James McClintock, Darren McLaughlin, Andy McLarnon, Don Whelan, Conal Gould, Sean McCann, Aidan O’Donnell, James Duffin, Aidan McCurry, Conal Kerr, Caolan Mullan
