WHAT IS A VEHICLE ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN? Vehicle engineering technicians possess the combination of technical skills necessary to help develop electric and automated/connected vehicles and test experimental prototypes. With the increasing push toward electromechanical systems, there is a great demand in the automotive industry for highly skilled vehicle engineering technicians. These technicians assist in launching the next line of intelligent vehicles in the market. THE PROGRAM AT MACOMB Macomb’s Automotive Technology—Vehicle Engineering Technician Program was developed by the College’s Center for Advanced Automotive Technology and is one of few like it in southeastern Michigan. In the program, you will learn how to read and interpret schematics, work specifications, drawing and charts. You will also become skilled in using a variety of equipment to assist engineers in developing, modifying and testing products in engineering laboratories and test development facilities.
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK With an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology—Vehicle Engineering Technician, you will be qualified for the position of automotive engineering technician. The median annual salary for this position is $53,470, with a projected employment growth of 10 percent through 2026.
