Admission Procedure - Students relocating from Kaplan/ to Campus

Step 1: Formulating Your Study Plan If you decide to relocate to Perth campus, the first step is to contact:

Singapore Mr. Alfred Chen [email protected] Dubai Ms Pratima Joshi [email protected]

You will need to discuss and formulate a study plan to relocate to Perth Campus. This study plan must be approved by their Academic Chair, as we will need to ensure that there is no significant disadvantage in study load and duration of study (as measured by number of study periods and not calendar months). If you are only attending South St Perth Campus for a semester, the study plan needs to specify how the 3 point South St units will contribute to the courses, and what units will be needed on return to the transnational campus to complete the course.

Here are some useful guides to formulate your study plan: ➢ Search for your course in this link http://print.handbook.murdoch.edu.au/courses/ ➢ Check under ‘Course Structure’ if the units in Perth are available in the sequence you need them ie. Semester 1 (Feb) internal or Semester 2 (Jul) internal

Relocating of your studies may become a problem if your units are not going to be available in the sequence you need them in Perth. There are only two intakes in – February and July. Ideally, students transferring to the February intake would have completed Trimester 3 off- shore, and students transferring to the July intake would have completed Trimester 1 off-shore. Take note that there may be a clash in dates between Trimester 2 and Semester 2.

Step 2: Submitting the Relocation Form If you accept the new study plan, you can complete the Relocation form and send it to [email protected] along with the Study Plan agreed.

When applying for relocation to Perth Campus, you will need to determine the cost of tuition fees and other necessary expenses. Please note that the fees you pay to Kaplan/Dubai are separate from fees paid to Murdoch Perth and it is also non-transferable. Once you have determined the units that you will need to do in Perth, you will need to request for a refund from Kaplan/Dubai from the units you have paid for but have not done.

2017 per unit fee: Tuition Fees - Fees for the units vary between AUD$3,457 and $3,931, depending on the field of study. You can use the fees calculator to find out the fees you will have to pay for the units you wish to do in Perth http://handbook.murdoch.edu.au/fees/ Student Services and Amenities fees - AU$294/year

Overseas Student Health Cover: 2017 fee is approximately $AU694 per year but you will need to purchase visa-length health cover. Accommodation: Please visit www.murdochuv.com.au for current prices. For off-campus living, a single room would cost approximately $AU150-200 per week. This will depend on location, number of tenants, furnished/unfurnished, etc.

Living expenses: AU$1,300-1,500/month, depending on student lifestyle (including accommodation, books and stationary, entertainment and miscellaneous, transport, food etc.).

Books (per semester): $AU200-400 (based on cost of new books; second hand books are often available and these are cheaper).

Step 3: Letter of Offer Once your relocation application has been processed, the Admissions Office will complete an offer letter with the exact course duration (i.e. for period remaining). This offer letter will be sent to you with the Study plan.

Step 4: Accepting the Offer If you decide to accept your offer, you can sign the acceptance form and pay tuition fees (which include Student Services and Amenities Fees and Overseas Student Health Cover). Upon receiving the signed acceptance form and the tuition fees for the duration of your study in Perth, the Admissions Office will process the Acceptance by issuing the Confirmation of Acceptance document (CoE) to you. The Admissions office will also advise you that your student record will revert to an onshore Perth location two weeks prior to the start of teaching.

With step 4, you have the option of carrying out this process on your own, or you can seek the assistance from one of Murdoch University’s registered agents in . The agents will assist in: • Taking out a bank loan if necessary • Facilitating the payment of your fees to Murdoch Perth • Processing your student visa • Finding accommodation • Booking your flights • Any other issues regarding transfer process

The list of Murdoch agents can be found from this link http://www.murdoch.edu.au/Future- students/International-students/Applying-to-Murdoch/How-to-apply/Applying-via-an- agent/

Step 5: Processing your visa Once you have made payment of the necessary tuition fees and Overseas Student Health Cover (see the Money Matters section of this flyer or your Offer of Admission), your agent will be sent a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) by the University. This document will allow you to start processing your student visa. The agent will call you to their office to undertake this process. Your visa will require you to undertake a medical check-up and your agent will advise you on how and where to go about this. Step 6: Finding Accommodation As soon as you have made payment you are encouraged to apply for Murdoch University Village (the University’s on-campus hostel) online at www.murdochuv.com.au. If you would like to live off-campus in shared accommodation or by yourself you can apply for this at the same website. Places at the Village are competitive so you should apply as early as possible. Murdoch University will assist you in the process of finding accommodation regardless of whether you choose to live on-or off-campus.

Step 7: Preparing your big trip to Perth About one month prior to the commencement of your studies in Perth you will be invited to a pre-departure seminar in Singapore. This will be held by a representative from Murdoch University in Perth and is designed to provide you with all the information you need to start your relocation to Perth. It includes the “nitty-gritty” details about what to bring, what to do before you leave Singapore, what to do in the first few days in Perth and so on.
