  • Residential Tenancies Board
Residential Tenancies Board Rent Index Q4 2020 About Us What is the Residential Tenancies Board? The Residential Tenancies Board, also known as the RTB, is a public body set up to support and develop a well-functioning rental housing sector. Our remit extends to the private rental, Approved Housing Body and Student Specific Accommodation sectors. Our role is to regulate the rental sector, provide information and research to inform policy, maintain a national register of tenancies, resolve disputes between tenants and landlords, initiate an investigation into Improper Conduct by a landlord, and provide information to the public to ensure tenancies run smoothly and no issues arise. What We Do Information, Research and Education The RTB provides high-quality information and assistance to landlords, tenants and the public on their rental rights and responsibilities, both in terms of living in and providing accommodation in the rental sector. We also provide accurate and authoritative data on the rental sector, such as the Quarterly Rent Index, which allows us to monitor trends in the rental sector, but also allows individuals to check and compare rents in particular locations. Registrations All private residential landlords, Approved Housing Bodies (who are not-for-profit housing providers, often referred to as Housing Associations) and landlords of Student Specific Accommodation must register their tenancies with the RTB. You can search to see if a tenancy is registered on the RTB website. The registration of tenancies enables us to collect important data on the sector. It is also a key part of regulating and supporting the sector and ensuring that landlords and tenants are aware of their rights and responsibilities.

  • The O'keeffes of Glenough by Robert O'keeffe Nora O'keeffe Was Born In
The O’Keeffes of Glenough by Robert O’Keeffe Nora O’Keeffe was born in Glenough, Rossmore Co. Tipperary in 1885, and was one of 12 children. The family were steeped in the nationalist tradition and her father, Dan, was a Nationalist Justice of Peace and a respected nationalist figure locally. There are uncorroborated stories of involvement in the Fenian outbreak of 1867 (Fr Denis Matthew O’Keeffe’s history). Nora emigrated to the US in 1909 and worked as a typist/stenographer. She appears to have returned to Ireland in 1918/9 along with her brother Patrick. During her time in the US she appears to have met Margaret Skinnider with whom it is thought she had a life long same sex relationship. (McAuliffe) She became active with Cumann na mBan and was among those listed in Bureau of Military History statements as having dispersed the gelignite from the Sologheadbeg ambush across the Brigade area. The younger members of the family seem to have immersed themselves in the national struggle at this time. This was probably due in no small part to the presence in the locality of staunch Republicans such as Fr Matt Ryan of Knockavilla, Eamonn O’Duibhir of Ballagh and the Irish teacher, Padraig Breathnach. The house at Glenough was used as a safe house and also played host to brigade meetings. The “Big Four” of Robinson, Breen, Treacy and Hogan were regular visitors as was Ernie O’Malley. O’Malley mentions the family in his autobiography “On another man’s wound” and also in his book “Raids and Rallies”.

ROINN COSANTA. BUREAU OF MILITARY HISTORY, l913-21 STATEMENT BY WITNESS. DOCUMENT NO. W.S. 1,079 Witness Patrick P. Fitzgerald, Spa Road, Tralee, Co. Kerry. Identity. Captain Fenit Company Irish Volunteers, Co. Kerry; Brigade Staff Officer Kerry I Brigade. Subject. National activities Fenit-Tralee, Co. Kerry, 1913-1921. Conditions, if any, Stipulated by Witness. Nil File No. S.2394 Form BSM2 STATEMENT OF PATRICK PAUL FITZGERALD Spa Road, Tralee, Co. Kerry. I was born on 29th June 1896, in Tralee. I was sent to the local National School until I was 15 years of age. When I left school I was apprenticed to the bakery trade. On the formation of the Volunteers in Tralee in the latter end of 1913 or early 1914, I became a member. The drill instructorsat the time were John Roche and Ned Leen, both ex-British soldiers. In all, there were four companies in the town of Tralee, A, B, C and D. The total strength was about 400 men. We paraded and drilled with wooden rifles throughout the year 1914. After John Redmond's speech at Woodenbridge in Co. Wicklow calling on the Volunteers to join the British army to defend the shores of Ireland, there was a split in the local battalion. A, B and D companies were opposed to Redmond's policy, but C Company were in favour and broke away from the battalion and ceased to take any further part in the activities of the Volunteers. We continued our parades and drills during the year 1915. Among the members of the Battalion Council at this time were Austin Stack, P.J.Cahill, Dan Healy and Fr.
