HEAD COACH SUSAN ROBERTS Susan Roberts is in her 28th season as the head volleyball coach at Grove City College. During her coaching career at Grove City, Roberts has constructed one of the region’s premier programs. Since taking over as head coach in 1985, Roberts has directed Grove City to nine Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championships along with three Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Championships. She has guided Grove City to 13 20-win seasons and seven total postseason ap- pearances. Roberts owns a 553-391 (.586) record as Grove City head coach. She earned her 500th win as Grove City head coach Sept. 18, 2007 as the Wolverines defeated Penn State Behrend. Roberts became Grove City College’s all-time leader in total coaching wins Oct. 28, 2008 when the Wolverines downed Bethany. She has 720 wins as a head coach at Grove City. On October 5, 2011, Roberts recorded her 600th win as a collegiate volleyball coach when the Wolverines earned a 3-2 win at Waynesburg. Overall, she has a 605-415 career record in 29 years as a head volleyball coach. Roberts made an immediate impact on the Grove City program, leading Grove City to a 41-1 record in 1985, including the program’s first PAC title and a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament. Roberts earned the Collegiate Volleyball

Coaches Association’s Division III Coach of the Year C

award following the 1985 season. OACHING Grove City finished the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally in the AVCA poll that year. Grove City closed the 1980s as the PAC’s domi- nant program, winning conference titles in 1985, S 1986, 1987 and 1989. That dominance continued into the 1990s as TAFF the Wolverines won conference crowns in 1992, 1993 and 1995. The 1994 team became the first College team to earn an ECAC title as the Wolverines swept Washington & Jefferson and Rutgers-Newark for the ECAC Southern Championship crown. Grove City then repeated as ECAC champion in 1995. Grove City returned to the top of the PAC in 2000, capturing the program’s eighth conference title under Roberts’ guidance. She has led Grove City to 553 wins since taking over in 1985. The following year, the Wolverines stormed to their ninth PAC title and returned to the ECAC Tournament. Entering as the sixth seed in the six-team tournament, the Wolverines upset Johns Hopkins, Franklin & Marshall and host Moravian to clinch their third ECAC title in seven years. Grove City volleyball players have also excelled in the classroom under Roberts’ guidance. Grove City has pro- duced at least one CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in five of the last seven seasons. From 1985-93, Roberts coached Grove City’s women’s basketball team and then coached the program from 1994-98. She is the only active coach in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference to win conference titles in three different sports currently sponsored by the league. A native of Ontario, Ohio, Roberts added the role of Associate Director of Athletics in 1998. She also holds the rank of associate professor of physical education. She earned her undergraduate degree in physical education from Ohio University in 1975 and then earned her master’s degree in biomechanics from the University of Arizona. Roberts lives on Lake Latonka, near Mercer.

2012 SEASON PREVIEW Optimism and expectations are high for the Grove City College volleyball team as the Wolverines prepare for the 2012 season. Grove City returns five starters from last year's 16- 15 campaign, along with four other experienced letterwinners. Despite having such a wealth of experience, the 2012 Wolverines will still be a relatively young squad with only outside hitter Elisabeth Willits entering her senior season. Head coach Susan Roberts, now in her 28th year at Grove City, will look to direct this talented nucleus back to the top of the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Willits led Grove City in total kills, hitting percent- age and kills average during the 2011 season and earned All-PAC Honorable Mention from the league's head coaches. She also led the team in kills as a sopho- more and will likely be a key component of Grove City's offensive attack again this year. REVIEW P Sophomore Dalaney Algiere (above) and junior Shelby Mander (below) both return after producing strong seasons in 2011. EASON S

Junior Ashley Branch returns for her third season in the middle for Grove City.

4 VOLLEYBALL 2012

2012 SEASON PREVIEW A four-player junior class will augment Willits. Three of the four juniors are returning starters. Junior middle hitter Ashley Branch led Grove City with 96 blocks and 33 aces while finishing second to Willits in both total kills and hitting percentage. Branch also is a two-year starter for the Wolverines. Junior Shelby Mander returns for her third season at outside hitter. She moved into the starting lineup on a regular basis last year and finished second on the team with a .242 hitting percentage. Mander owns two letters and will look to again be a key contributor. Defensively, junior Tara Skinner will challenge for the starting libero position after finishing second on the team in digs last year. She played in all 31 matches and also finished sec- ond on the team with 26 aces. Skinner is a two-year letterwinner in the back row. Sophomore Dalaney Algiere quickly moved into the rotation in 2011 and led the team in sets played.

Algiere ranked second on the team with 90 blocks S as a freshman and led the team in solo rejections with EASON 53. She will team with Branch to solidify the Wolver-

ines in the middle. P Junior Jennifer Toth is back for her third year at REVIEW outside hitter.

Senior co-captain Elisabeth Willits is the lone senior on Grove City’s 2012 roster. She has played as a reserve in each of her first two seasons and owns two letters. Sophomore Francis Trenta broke into the rotation late in her freshman season and will look to earn a full- time spot. Sophomores Hannah Liermann and Amy Collins also return after seeing reserve duty as freshmen. Collins will contend for time at setter and Liermann will look to break through at outside hitter. Each player is also a candidate to see time in the back row. Grove City will open the 2012 season August 31 by competing in Ohio Wesleyan's season-opening Bishop Invitational. The home schedule opens September 5 with a non- conference match against Penn State Altoona. Confer- ence action begins three days later with a tri-match against Thiel and Waynesburg. 9 GROVE CITY COLLEGE

2011 IN REVIEW Despite fielding one of the youngest teams in the region, the Grove City College volleyball team contin- ued its march back to the Presidents' Athletic Conference's elite during the 2011 season. Nine underclassmen played extensively for the Wol- verines, helping the team finish 16-15 overall. While youth proved to be a key trait of the 2011 Wolverines, Grove City received significant contribu- tions from players in each class. Senior libero Heather Good led the team in digs while junior Elisabeth Willits paced the team in kills and kill average. Sophomore Ashley Branch topped the squad in both blocks and aces. Meanwhile, freshman Dalaney Algiere played in a team-high 112 sets in 2011. Grove City opened the 2011 season by going 3-1 at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational Sep- tember 2-3. After a five-set setback against Denison in the opener, the Wolverines rolled to wins over Manches- ter, Earlham and Ohio Wesleyan. Senior Mary Masincup paced Grove City in its four- set win over Manchester by accumulating a dozen kills. The Wolverines opened conference action Septem- ber 10 by splitting a tri-match at Geneva. After drop- EVIEW ping a hard-fought four-set bout with Geneva, Grove City quickly rebounded to sweep Waynesburg. Branch's seven-kill, four-block effort helped lead the Wolver- ines. 2011 R The Wolverines returned to tournament action Sep- tember 16-17 by competing in the Tournament in Meadville, Pa. Once again, Grove City went 3-1 during the week- end.

Senior libero Heather Good (top right) led Grove City in digs in 2011 while senior Mary Masincup (left) ranked second on the team in kill average. Junior Elisabeth Willits (above) led Grove City in kills.
