East Hill Christian School Summer Reading 2020 Rising 6th Grade to 8th Grade For these assignments to be beneficial, summer reading should take place over the course of the summer. The books chosen will stir the imagination and will keep the gift of reading alive. Summer lends itself to many other fun activities like movies, music, video games, and social media which can occupy a student’s time and attention. To sit and read a book can reap so many rewards if it is intentional and planned out. Rather than reading CliffsNotes, SparkNotes, etc. and/or watching a movie version of the book, students must read the unabridged text to receive maximum benefit. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Students will choose one book from the Book Selection list for their grade level. Students are to select a book that they have not read before. After reading the book in its entirety, the student will fill out the Completion Form that will need to be turned in by the end of the first week of school. The form can be handwritten or typed. A quiz grade will be given on the summer reading project. Important: We recommend that parents participate in selecting your child’s summer reading. Although books on this list come highly recommended from various sources, some of the books may touch on issues that you deem unsuitable for your child. There are many reviews and summaries online that can give guidance. Rising 6th Graders 1. Summer of the Swans, Betsy Byars 2. The Pushcart Wars, Jean Merrill 3.
