Explanation as to why conference is superior to comparator:

8 MPLR and DLS are close in scope, but MPLR (and its predecessors ManLang and PPPJ) are broader in the sense that they also address issues of runtime environments. MPLR is slightly more selective (lower acceptance rates) and attracts a broader community (both people from academia and industry). The program chairs and the general chairs of MPLR usually have a higher h-index than the chairs of DLS. Workshop on Programming Languages and Operating Systems

Explanation as to why conference is superior to comparator: Both MPLR and PLOS target programming languages, but MPLR concentrates on dynamic languages and virtual machines whereas PLOS targets general languages and operating systems. MPLR is more selective as it has higher submission numbers and lower acceptance rates. The standing of the program chairs and the general chairs in terms of their h-index is roughly on par. MPLR is an annual conference, whereas PLOS takes place only every second year. Other relevant information: MPLR has a long history. From 2002 to 2016 its name was PPPJ (Principles and Practice of Programming in Java). In 2017, its scope was broadened, so it was renamed to ManLang (Managed Languages and Runtimes), and in 2019 it was renamed to MPLR (Managed Programming Languages and Runtimes).
