For sale freehold This is the first time Rosemount has come to market for 35 years. It provides an opportunity for the incoming purchaser to enjoy a wonderful family home. There is also an option to purchase an adjacent 3 bedroom cottage, once the farm dairy, by separate negotiation. Rosemount has a beautiful entrance hall leading to a number of excellent reception rooms which are ideal for entertaining. In the drawing room and dining room are classic Georgian fireplaces, crafted from rare 'Ipplepen marble', which was quarried locally. There is also a bespoke farmhouse kitchen with three-oven Aga as well as a delightful garden room leading onto a beautiful terrace with lily pond. The bedroom accommodation is well arranged and also boasts a spacious principal bedroom suite. From the upper floors there are beautiful views towards Dartmoor. A building has stood on the site of Rosemount for several hundred years. A working farm until 1945, today it is a beautiful and prestigious home restored and upgraded to the highest standards. The house has only changed hands three times in over 100 years. A late Georgian house, it was listed in the late 1980s, and contains much of architectural interest inside and out. The double entranced semi-circular carriage drive is a particularly unusual feature, as are the high curved stone walls which embrace the front garden. A mounting block may be found in the private drive to the side of the house. Remnants of an older house are still to be seen within the house with an original inglenook fireplace and some oak beams. Rosemount was enlarged and 'gentrified' in approximately 1840, and remained a busy farm, owning many acres of land including a cider orchard, some of which remains to this day. A copy of Jane Langler's diary is available and makes fascinating reading. Jane paid a summer visit to the house in 1851 and describes her time there, her visits to relatives, and how she took refreshments to the farm labourers who were bringing in the harvest. Interestingly, descendants of many of the names mentioned still live in the Ipplepen area. Photos may be seen of Jane as a child, a mother, and an old lady, given by one of her descendants who visited the house some years ago. During the 19th century, Rosemount was a 'dame school' for some years, in addition to being a farm, run by three sisters from .
