This is an absolutely fantastic achievement. I remember when Jennifer first entered the sport, back in the early 1990s. We met when we were both doing our TPR course at the East Kurrajong Hall. From there Jennifer has gone on to become one of Australia’s best known and most loved endurance riders. Congratulations must also go to Graeme [GG], Jennifer’s husband. As every endurance rider knows, a good strapper is worth his or her weight in gold! Congratulations to both of them. Ed Above: Jennifer riding Gilbertson Blaxland. Interest and tempo is growing with the State Championships coming up with the Kilkavan Quilty shortly thereafter. Our thanks go to the Tamworth and District Endurance Club for hosting the State Championships at Manilla this year; entrants are in for a great weekend as this group always puts on an enjoyable, interesting event. This weekend also offers an opportunity to qualify for the Quilty three weeks later. The SMC is calling for nominations for the NSWERA Quilty teams, please get your nomination in for the opportunity to represent your state – not to mention the uniform provided from the great new range of clothing merchandise. We are also calling for a team coordinator for the event so if you are going to be there with a few free hours please submit an EOI. Good luck to all riders involved in these two great events and thank you to the organizers, officials, and volunteers that make these events possible. Project TQ15 to organise the running of the 50th Tom Quilty back home where it began in 2015 is under way with the subcommittee restructuring from feasibility and proposal focus to a project management and delivery team which is larger and wider based than the original team. We wish Neil and the team good luck for the task ahead. On the administrative front the Committee members are settling into their portfolio responsibilities; we have had a change of membership with Gay Bonham stepping down and being replaced by Gertraud Norton from the reserves, welcome Gertraud. We thank Gay for her many years of service; her work ethic, and wealth of talent and experience will be missed. Cheers, Tom NSW ERA COMMITTEE MEETINGS Meetings are usually held at the Arabian Society Rooms George Street, Windsor Meetings commence at 6.00pm sharp. All are invited to attend. Next meeting: th Friday 17 May 2013. Richmond Club. NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 2 Track Preservation Report National Parks trails to be opened to horses – progress report Regional workplans and budgets for horse riding initiatives are currently being finalised by NPWS. Meanwhile we have seen the first real horse riding improvement after a year of words and promises. A new gate has been installed at Scheyville National Park in Sydney's north-west, finally resolving the problem of ac- cess to the horse float parking area on Scheyville Road. The old gate was narrow, with a tree in exactly the wrong spot, and nowhere to pull off the road while you opened/closed the gate. The new gate is recessed, wider and clear of trees. Draft Plans of Management All National Parks & Wildlife Service Plans of Management, both draft and finalised, can be viewed at the NPWS website at http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parkmanagement/ ParkAndFireManagementPlansByCategory.htm Plans of management define if and where you are allowed to ride in a park. You can make submissions by post, email or directly from the website. A submission is simply your comments on the plan of management, whether agreeing or disagreeing with what is be- ing proposed. Another two bad ones this time around. It is almost as though we are having so much success in some areas, they are trying to offset it by excluding us from others! Tabbimoble Swamp Nature Reserve – south-west of Evans Head. Horse riding not permitted. Submissions close 17 June 2013. Bargo River State Conservation Area – near Yerrinbool. Horse riding not permitted. There is a strong case for us to get this changed, as Bargo SCA across the road permits horse riding and there is a trail through Bargo River SCA which connects it to public land on the other side. Sydney's south-west is particularly limited in its riding opportunities because of the large extent of catchment areas, which do not impact this park. Submissions close 24 June 2013.
