[email protected] Hill Trophy Winner Czerniewski, Upshaw Award Runner-up Schiechl Headline 2010 Don Hansen All-America Team PITTSBURG, Kan. —Harlon Hill Trophy winning quarterback Eric Czerniewski of Central Missouri and Gene Upshaw Award runner-up defensive end Marc Schiechl of Colorado Mines headline a talented 2010 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All- America Team. Czerniewski, who captured the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II National Player of the Year honors, garnered Don Hansen Offensive Player of the Year accolades. Schiechel, who finished second behind Slippery Rock offensive center Brandon Fusco for the Gene Upshaw Award as the National Lineman of the Year recognition, received Don Hansen National Defensive Player of the Year honors. Fusco, a first-team All-America selection, received the eighth annual NCAA-II Rimington Award as the division’s top offensive center. † Angelo State return specialist Garrett Tidwell, who returned three kicks for scores and ranked in the top 10 nationally in both punt returns and kickoff returns, was selected the Don Hansen National Special Teams Player of the Year. Bloomsburg running back Franklyn Quiteh, who led Division II in rushing with 2,015 yards and 22 touchdowns, and Pittsburg State linebacker Nate Dreiling, who led the division in tackles (160, 13.3 pg), shared Don Hansen National Freshman of the Year honors. Minnesota Duluth’s Bob Nielson, who led the Bulldogs to an unblemished 15-0 record and the school’s second NCAA Division II National Championship in three years, shared Don Hansen National Coach of the Year honors with Mercyhurst’s Marty Schaetzle, who led one of the division’s most compelling turnarounds in 2010 with a 10-3 record and an NCAA-II second-round playoff appearance after a 4-7 campaign in 2009.
