Note on fire season Fire plays an important role in the life of a forest. Fires clear old growth, turning leaves and dead wood into instant fertilizer. With the sun-saturated and nutrient-rich soil being exposed, plants rapidly grow back, providing abundant food for song- birds and wildlife. The burned out standing trees become havens for insects that feed woodpeckers and other small creatures. The also trees provide shelter, nesting sites, and perches for wildlife.

Caution watch for falling trees on trails that lie within burned forest areas. Take heed of posted notices at affected trailheads and take appropriate precautions.
