Part 1: Sending a Photo via Email

A. Introduction To submit your (child’s) handmade/handwritten work to your teacher, you may choose to use a smartphone to take a photo of the work, and send the photo to the teacher.

If you are using an iOS device, like an iPhone or iPad, then it is important that you use MAIL or SAFARI to send it to us, not .

This will keep our phone private, while helping teachers to know who exactly sent the message and/or which student’s work we are seeing.

There are a few ways to email a photo on an iPhone or other iOS device; two of them are explained in parts A and B. For all of them, you will need your teacher’s EXACT email address. (Check the staff page on the website or app to be sure you know how to spell it.)

1 B. Send the email account on your phone using the MAIL app

Step Screenshot

1. Click on the Photos app.

2. Tap on the photo you would like to send to bring it up.

3. Tap the photo again. A blue circle with a check mark will appear in the bottom right corner of the photo, along with some app options underneath the photo.

2 4. Select Mail.

5. This will create a new message. Type in your teacher’s email where it says TO. Be very careful to type it correctly.

6. In the subject line, type something that will help the teacher know what the photo shows – at a minimum, the student’s first name and “assignment” or “work.”

3 7. Click on the blank space above the photo to add text to the body of the email. Please include, at a minimum: the teacher’s name, what assignment the photo shows, and the first and last name of the student who completed the work.

8. To send your email, click the blue arrow icon in the top right corner.

You’re all done sending the photo via email!

4 C. Send an email from your Gmail (Google) account in Safari

8. Click on “attach a photo” (the camera icon).

You’re all done sending the photo via email!

8 Part 2: Making sure your email went through

D. Introduction

When sending schoolwork through email, it is always a good idea to check and make sure that your email went through after sending. Sometimes, you will get an error email in response if your email bounced back, but it may take a few hours or days, and sometimes you won’t get one at all.

Parts E and F will show you two ways to check your sent messages folder immediately after sending the email.

Please remember – everybody makes mistakes with email and attachments sometimes. If you made a mistake, that’s okay! You can just send it again. (It’s also nice to include a note in the subject line, like, “disregard last email,” so the teacher knows only to open the second one.)

E. Check the sent folder on your phone’s email account using the MAIL app Use this if you used part A to send your photo earlier.

Steps Screenshot 1. Click on the Mail app.

2. This will bring up your inbox. Click on the blue back arrow < that says “Mailboxes” in the top left corner of the screen.

9 3. You will need to scroll down and find the email service you sent the message from (Gmail, iCloud, etc.).

4. If you have more than one email address linked to your phone, be sure to scroll down until you see the service you just used to send the email. (See photo – I used Gmail, not iCloud, to send my photo, and had to scroll down to find it.) Click on “sent” underneath the name of the email service you used.

5. This will open your “Sent” folder. You should see the emails you have sent, with the most recent one at the top. IF YOU DO NOT SEE YOUR EMAIL, THAT MEANS IT DID NOT SEND. If you do see it, click on it.

10 6. Check the email and make sure there is an attachment at the bottom. You can tell in two ways: first, there will be a paperclip underneath the time/date you sent it, in the top right. Next, there will be a box at the bottom of the email that says “Tap to Download.” (You can tap it to see the photo.)

7. Next, check that you put in the correct email address for your teacher. If the email address isn’t displaying, tap the small gray arrow > next to their name.

8. This will show the email you sent it to, so you can ensure it was the right one.

You’re all done checking that the email was sent correctly!

11 F. Check the sent folder on your Google account in Safari Use this if you used part B to send your photo earlier.

Step Screenshot 1. Open the Safari app.

2. Go to gmail.com or mail.google.com and sign into your Google account.

3. Click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner of your inbox.

12 4. Click on “Sent Mail.”

5. This will open your “Sent” folder. You should see the emails you have sent, with the most recent one at the top. IF YOU DO NOT SEE YOUR EMAIL, THAT MEANS IT DID NOT SEND. If you do see it, click on it. (If you see a paperclip icon to the left of the time/date sent, that means there is an attachment.)

6. Check the email and make sure there is an attachment at the bottom of the email. You should see a thumbnail (mini) version of your photo, along with a file name in blue.

13 7. Next, check that you put in the correct email address for your teacher. If the email address isn’t displaying, tap their name.

8. This will show the email you sent it to, so you can ensure it was the right one.

You’re all done checking that the email was sent correctly!
