Brett Bellchambers also backed up his Single Speed World Solo 24Hr title from Canberra in 2013. The race drew riders from 25 countries and both the men and women provided some enthralling racing throughout the day and night. Our interim EO, Shane Coppin, was officially appointed as the MTBA Chief Executive Officer for a term which will provide continuity through to the World Championships in Cairns. Shane brings a background in sport and business to MTBA and he worked productively with the MTBA Committee this year to make positive changes in our organization. You will have seen the recent announcement of other employment opportunities within MTBA. MTBA is in a sound financial position and well placed to meet the future challenges of our sport. I had the opportunity at the Commonwealth Games to get the CEO of the Australian Sports Commission, Simon Hollingsworth, out to the mountain biking. We had a long discussion at Cathkin Braes about support for our sport and that is continuing back in Canberra. I hope to be able to translate this into increased development opportunities for our riders. MTBA is addressing the trails advocacy and access requirements. Following the low number of applications for the 2014 IMBA summit in Cairns, we are changing the way we look after trail access programs. Our learning and the depth of understanding of the histories and cultures of all codes has continued, likewise our clarity of the opportunities and challenges facing cycling has sharpened. This year has already seen the British rider win two big stage races, the Tour de Romandie in Switzerland and the Critérium du Dau- phiné in France. His impressive athletic performance over the Tour’s 3,400 kilometre (2,110 mile) route in July saw him win his first Tour de France ahead of Colombia’s Nairo Alexander Quintana Rojas and Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver of Spain. To celebrate the 100th edition of the Tour de France, this year’s Grande Boucle started with three stages in Corsica – the first time the Tour has ever visited the Mediterranean island. In another bold step, the race didn’t start with its normal prologue this year.
