$1,000 12,000 EMERGING MARKETS DEAL MAKING FALLS 7% M&A activity with emerging markets involvement totaled US$727.3 billion during the first nine months of $900 2019, a decrease of 7% compared to 2018 levels and the slowest opening nine-month period for 10,000 emerging markets deal making since 2017. Ten deals greater than US$5 billion accounted for 23% of announced emerging markets M&A activity during the first nine months of 2019, up from 15% a year ago.

CROSS-BORDER M&A ACCOUNTS FOR 37% OF EMERGING MARKETS DEAL MAKING Cross-border M&A activity totaled US$271.2 billion during the first nine months of 2019, a 17% decrease 981 $164.4 compared to first nine months of 2018 and the slowest opening nine-month period for cross-border M&A $221.0 since 2014. Energy and Power, Financials and Technology deal making accounted for 54% of overall 1,374 Energy and Power cross-border M&A during the first nine months of 2019, up from 30% a year ago.
