The A-League was initially established under the guise of a “one-team-one-city” North American model and restricted itself to private-equity franchises that could raise start-up capital of AUD1 million. The shift to the A-League resulted in the ethnic community clubs, which had formed the backbone of the NSL, being relegated to the various states premier leagues. The authors use a Marxist analysis to explain how the transference of fans’ hopes and dreams on to the ethnic clubs and the transference by the part-time and volunteer labor forces of parts of themselves into the clubs have seen this accumulated capital (both financial and cul- tural) robbed and devalued by the A-League.

N E W S L E T T E R 25 November 2016 Volume 18 Issue 19 College Mission . Building on a foundation of Christian values, the mission of Aitken College is to enable students to become informed and compassionate members of the wider community by inspiring academic achievement and creativity, nurturing self worth, encouraging environmental responsibility and committing to service with and for others. Important Diary Dates for 2016 Term Dates for 2016 Wed 07 Dec Presentation Night (Years 3 to 12) Fri 09 Dec Term 4 concludes Term 4 3 October to 9 December Thought: “A happy life is one spent in learning, earning and yearning.” Lillian Gish From the Principal The VCE examinations and VCAL assessment have been completed. This gave us the opportunity to celebrate with staff, students and families at the Year 12 Class of 2016 Valedictory dinner last week. It was a wonderful opportunity to thank the students and their parents for the contributions made. Each student was presented with a graduation certificate and a gift from the College which we hope they will treasure. For 85 of the families (out of 136) this was the last child completing their schooling and hence it was quite an emotional time. Some families have been part of the College since it opened in 1999. Families were thanked for what they had contributed in establishing the school, building its culture and sense of community and for putting trust in the staff of the College with the education of their children. We wish the students of the Class of 2016 all the best for the future.
